Factor II (prothrombin) is a vitamin K-dependent serine protease synthesized in liver. It participates in the final common pathway of coagulation, as the substrate for the prothrombinase enzyme complex. Prothrombin is the precursor of thrombin (IIa) which converts fibrinogen to fibrin.
