This test is used to detect the antibodies produced by the body against Ascaris lumbricoides. It is a type of parasite commonly known as hookworm. This test is used in diagnosing and detecting the presence of these parasites within the body of the individual.
What is Ascariasis?
Ascaris lumbricoides is a type of roundworm which infects the body of individuals. The infection is caused by ingestion of food or water contaminated with these parasites. These parasites are also found in soil which is contaminated with human feces. These organisms grow within the body and cause illness.
The infection caused by this organism is called ascariasis. The organism upon ingestion grows within the stomach and migrate to the lungs of an individual. These parasites can come out of the lungs through cough and reach the intestines again through the throat. The eggs and parasites can also be found in the feces of an infected individual.
Soil, food, and water contaminated with human feces is the main route of infection of this parasite. Maintaining proper hygiene, clean food and water can play a major role in controlling the spread of the infection.
What is Serology?
This is a method used to analyze the presence of antibodies produced within the body during an infection or a parasite in a sample from the blood sample of an individual. There are various sensitive tests used for this test like PCR (polymerase chain reaction), ELISA(Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay), Radioimmunoassay (RIA), etc.
Why is this test is recommended?
This test is recommended if you experience signs and symptoms like unexplained coughing and gagging, blood in the mucus, fever, nausea, vomiting, severe abdominal pain, weight loss, weakness, malabsorption (unable to absorb food and nutrients), severe diarrhea,
This test can also be recommended to rule of the cause fo malnutrition, this test can also be recommended if you had traveled to areas prone for these infections and start experiencing the symptoms of this infection.
Inform your doctor if you are on any medications, have any allergies or underlying medical conditions before your Ascariasis Serology Elisa Blood. Your doctor will give specific instructions depending on your condition on how to prepare for Ascariasis Serology Elisa Blood.
The normal test results may vary depending on age, health history, medical condition, etc.
If your test results show positive then you may be infected with the Ascaris parasite.
If your test results show negative then you may not be infected with the Ascaris parasite and might require further diagnostic tests to rule out the symptoms,
Please consult your doctor with the test results, your doctor may suggest the relevant treatments and further diagnostic tests if necessary.
