Allergy xylocaine skin test is used to test the sensitization of your skin to the Xylocaine. This test helps in knowing the immune response to the Xylocaine. In this test, your skin is slightly pricked and introduced to the Xylocaine.
What is xylocaine?
Xylocaine is a local anesthetic drug used to numb the tissues on which it is applied. Xylocaine is also known as lidocaine or lignocaine. This is used to prevent or control pain in the procedures where the female or male urethra is involved. This is also used in the treatment of ventricular tachycardia (an abnormal rhythm of the heart) and topical treatment of urethritis (inflammation of the urethra). It is used as a lubricant for endotracheal intubation.
What is xylocaine allergy?
When the administration of xylocaine leads to some unwanted effects it may be termed as xylocaine allergy. These unwanted effects may be swelling, fainting, dizziness, difficulty in breathing, lesions on the skin, etc.
Sometimes the allergic reactions can be life-threatening causing narrowing of the airways, making it difficult to breathe. Very less often xylocaine allergy may cause an anaphylactic reaction. Anaphylaxis is a medical emergency condition which leads to facial flushing, itching, shock, sudden fall in blood pressure, constriction of airways, swollen throat, difficulty to breathe, etc.

Understanding your test results
