Allergy tetracycline enzyme assay skin test is used to test the sensitization of your skin to the antibiotic tetracycline. This test helps to know the immune response of the body towards the antibiotic tetracycline. In this test, your skin is slightly pricked and introduced to tetracycline.
What is Tetracycline allergy?
Tetracycline is an antibiotic which is used in the treatment of a variety of infections. It works by stopping the growth of bacteria. The common side effects that may occur with the use of this medicine is a loss of appetite, mouth sores, sore throat, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. Tetracycline may cause teeth discoloration in the children. It may also increase the risk of sunburns when exposed to the sunlight. This medicine has to be only used on a medical prescription.
Tetracycline allergy is an allergic reaction of the body towards it. This occurs due to the immune response of the body towards the antibiotic tetracycline. This test is performed in individuals who need a treatment with tetracycline to check for allergy or when you are suspected to have a tetracycline allergy. Your doctor may ask to perform this test if you experience signs and symptoms of tetracycline allergy such as skin rashes, swelling of the skin, discoloration of the skin, itching on the genital areas, dizziness, fever, nausea, vomiting etc.
Test Preparation

Understanding your test results
After getting exposed to tetracycline if you develop rashes on the skin or a wheal or flare reaction (immediate reaction to an allergen) at the test location that is at least 3 mm of size indicate that you may have a tetracycline allergy.
If there is no reaction or rashes present on the skin after getting exposed to the tetracycline then it may indicate that you are not allergic to tetracycline.
