What is this test?
Allergy Ginger Radio Immunoabsorbent Blood is used to test the individual for any allergy towards ginger or products and foods which may contain ginger. Your doctor may suggest this test if he/she suspects that the cause of your allergic reaction may be due to ginger or products and foods which may contain ginger.
What is Ginger allergy?
Ginger is a commonly used spice in any cuisine. The botanical name of ginger is Zingiber officinale. It is root spice and is grown mostly over southern Asia. The underground rhizome of the plant grows horizontally along the ground and appears like a staghorn and is used in both culinary and medical purposes. Few reports have been recorded in people regarding allergic reactions to ginger. Allergic reactions to ginger occur when the body of an individual accidentally interprets the proteins present in ginger as antigens/ foreign bodies and develop specific antibodies as a response. These antibodies respond whenever an individual is exposed to the proteins present in ginger.
Why this test is recommended?
This test may be recommended to you if you experience symptoms like severe itching, rashes, inflammation of the skin, runny or stuffy nose, difficulty in breathing, wheezing, mild fever, gastrointestinal upset like nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, etc immediately or later after consuming ginger or products and foods which may contain ginger. This may also be recommended to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment if you are diagnosed already.
Precautions:
In case of an allergic reaction, immediately contact the medical emergency. Inform your doctor if you know that you are allergic to certain foods or medicines. Your doctor may recommend you to carry an EpiPen (epinephrine injection) and suggest to avoid foods or medicines you are allergic to.
