What is this test?
Allergy Egg Yolk Enzyme Assay Skin is used to test the individual for any allergy towards egg yolk or products and foods which may contain egg yolk. Your doctor may suggest this test if he/she suspects that the cause of your allergic reaction may be due to egg yolk or products and foods which may contain egg yolk.
What is Egg yolk allergy?
An individual may be allergic to certain foods, medicines, or substances like latex etc. Egg yolk allergy can also be one of them. In this condition, an individual may develop an allergic reaction when he/she is exposed to or after consuming egg yolk or products and foods which may contain egg yolk. Egg yolk allergy can be a type of food allergy. Egg yolk allergy develops when the body of the individual mistakes certain proteins present in the egg yolk as harmful and produces antibodies in response. These antibodies release histamines when the individual consumes or comes in contact with egg yolk or products and foods which contain egg yolk. The release of histamines in the body causes the symptoms of allergic reactions to occur which includes facial flushing, rashes, vomiting, stomach cramps etc.
Why this test is recommended?
This test may be recommended to you if you experience symptoms like severe itching, rashes, inflammation of the skin, runny or stuffy nose, difficulty in breathing, wheezing, mild fever, gastrointestinal upset like nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, etc immediately or later after consuming egg yolk or products and foods which may contain egg yolk.
This may also be recommended to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment if you are diagnosed already.
Precautions:
In case of an allergic reaction, immediately contact the medical emergency. Inform your doctor if you know that you are allergic to certain foods or medicines. Your doctor may recommend you to carry an EpiPen (epinephrine injection) and suggest to avoid foods or medicines you are allergic to.
