Allergy Diclofenac Fluorescence Assay Blood test is used to test the individuals for any allergy towards the NSAIDS/ Painkiller medicines like diclofenac, Aspirin etc. Your doctor may suggest this test if he/she suspects that the cause of your allergic reaction may be due to any pain killer medicines.

What is Drug Allergy?

An abnormal reaction of the immune system of an individual due to consuming a medicine is called as a drug allergy. A drug allergy is different from a side effect. The side effects occur due to an improper dose and are often related to the dose of the medicine used. A drug allergy is more of a reaction of the immune system of the individual. Which might occur when the immune system of an individual accidentally recognizes the medicine as a harmful substance. The symptoms may be immediate or develop later. The symptoms include skin rashes, swelling of face and lips, breathlessness, swelling up of airways, urticaria (swollen pale or red bumps on the skin) etc.

What is Diclofenac allergy?

Diclofenac is a painkiller medicine which belongs to the class NSAIDs(Non-Steroidal Anti-inflammatory Drugs). This medicine is used to treat a wide variety of conditions like mild fever, headaches, body aches, muscle cramps etc. An Individual may be allergic to this medicine if he/she experiences sudden reactions like Skin rashes, swelling of the face, eyes, lips etc. If an individual is allergic to diclofenac then it is recommended that the individual should get themselves checked for allergies towards other painkiller medicines as well.

Why this test is recommended?

This test would be recommended by the physician as a usual screening test to rule out any possible medicine allergies or if you have/had experience of symptoms like severe itching, rashes, inflammation of the skin, runny or stuffy nose, difficulty in breathing, wheezing, mild fever, gastrointestinal upset like nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, etc immediately or later consuming diclofenac or medicine combinations which might contain diclofenac.

This may also be recommended to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment if you are diagnosed already.

Precautions:

In case of an allergic reaction, immediately contact the medical emergency. Inform your doctor if you know that you are allergic to certain medicines. Your doctor may recommend you to carry an EpiPen (epinephrine injection) and avoid using medicines you are allergic to.

Positive results of this test indicate that an individual is allergic to diclofenac or medicine combinations containing it.

Negative results indicate that an individual is not allergic to diclofenac or medicine combinations containing it. If your test results come out as positive, Your doctor might recommend avoiding diclofenac or medicine combinations containing it and please contact your doctor/health care provider with your results for further advice if any.
