What is this test?

This test is used to detect the presence of immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies against dates in the blood. This test helps to know the immune response of the body towards dates.

What is Dates allergy?

Dates allergy is a type of allergy in which an individual is allergic to dates and may suffer from symptoms such as tingling in the mouth, headache, low blood pressure, sleep disturbances, red and itchy eyes, watery eyes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, difficulty in breathing, swelling of the throat, sneezing, skin rashes, hoarseness, runny nose, etc.

Mostly, dates allergy is of three 3 types and they are date fruit mold allergy, date fruit sulfite allergy, and date fruit pollen allergy. In severe allergic condition, an individual may suffer from life-threatening anaphylactic shock.

The immune system in the individuals who are allergic to dates will produce antibodies against the allergens that are present in the dates and they are mold and sulfites. These are responsible for allergic reactions.

Foods to be avoided: Individuals who are allergic to dates should avoid some alternatives to dates products and they are figs, prunes, raisins, lion dates, some raw fruits, food items containing dried date fruit sulfite and mold, etc.

Why this test is performed?

This test is performed to check whether an individual is allergic to dates or not. The doctor may ask you to undergo this test if you are suffering from symptoms such as runny nose, swelling of the throat, sneezing, sleep disturbances, tingling in the mouth, headache, low blood pressure, red and itchy eyes, watery eyes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, difficulty in breathing, skin rashes, hoarseness, etc.

Precautions:

Some medications may change the test results and hence you are advised to inform all your current medications to the doctor prior to the test.

Test Preparation

Inform your doctor if you are on any medications, have any allergies or underlying medical conditions before your Allergy Dates Fluorescence Assay. Your doctor will give specific instructions depending on your condition on how to prepare for Allergy Dates Fluorescence Assay.

There are no specific preparations required for this test.

Understanding your test results

The test results may be different depending on gender, age, and health conditions. Inform your doctor if you have any other allergies.

Generally, there is no need for medical interventions if test results are normal.

If your test results show high levels of IgE antibodies than the given normal reference range, it may indicate that the person is most likely to have a date allergy.

If your test results are lower than the normal reference range, it may indicate that the person is not having a date allergy.

Based on the test results, your doctor may advise appropriate medical treatments, lifestyle modifications, or further diagnostic tests.
