Description
Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER is a broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic used for the treatment of bacterial infections of the urinary tract. This tablet is effective against a large number of bacteria. It kills or prevents the growth of bacteria in the body. It is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Common side effects of Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER are diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER can cause muscle damage, usually in the ankle. It should only be used to treat or prevent infections that are caused by bacteria. Once an antibiotic is started, it is always recommended to finish the entire course of treatment. You can take Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER with or without food. For the ease of remembering, take this tablet around the same time every day.

Allergy

Avoid taking Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER if you are previously allergic to it. Serious allergic reactions to this medicine are rare. However, seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulties, etc.

Tendinitis or tendon rupture

Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER can cause muscle damage especially in old age. Do not use Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER if you have tendonitis (swelling of fibres that attach bone with muscles) or tendon rupture (a partial or complete tear of the tendon- the tissue that connects muscle to bone).

Myasthenia gravis

Myasthenia gravis is a skeletal muscle weakness condition characterized by severe weakness of any of the muscles under your voluntary control, including the arms and legs. Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER should be avoided in patients with myasthenia gravis since it may get worsen.

Tizanidine

Tizanidine is a muscle relaxer used to treat muscle pain. Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER is not recommended for use in patients taking tizanidine due to the risk of very low blood pressure.

Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER should be avoided during pregnancy due to the risk of adverse effects on the baby's developing joints. It is not known to cause harmful effects on the baby if is taken later in pregnancy. Take Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER only upon your doctor's recommendation.

General warnings

Muscle damage

Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER can cause muscle damage usually on the tendons that surround the ankle. Inform your doctor if you feel pain, numbness, or tingling sensations in your muscles.

Antibiotic resistance

Finish your entire course of treatment with Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER, even if the condition gets better to avoid antibiotic resistance (the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics). If you still feel unwell after completing your antibiotic course, make an appointment to consult your doctor.

Diarrhoea

Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER can cause diarrhoea because it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. Get emergency medical help if you experience severe diarrhoea that is watery or bloody. Call your pharmacist/doctor before taking anti-diarrhoeal medication.

Driving or operating machinery

Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER may cause dizziness, confusion, or disorientation and hence do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms.

Use in children

Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER is not recommended for use in patients less than 18 years of age since the safety and efficacy of use are not clinically established.

Missed Dose

Try not to skip a dose of Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER. And if a dose is skipped, do not add it up to the next dose.

Central nervous system disorders

Use Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER with caution in patients with nerve problems, seizures, depression, and psychotic reactions. Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER can trigger these conditions and inform your doctor immediately if these reactions occur.

Gastrointestinal Diseases

Use Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER with extreme caution in patients with gastrointestinal (mouth to anus) diseases, particularly colitis (swelling of the inner lining of the colon), since it may worsen the patient's condition.

QT Prolongation

Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER may cause heart rhythm problem called prolonged QT intervals (an electrical heartbeat disturbance) in some patients who are taking heart medications. It may result in fast, rapid, and irregular heartbeats.

Impaired kidney function

Patients with kidney diseases need special consideration while taking Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER due to the risk of kidney damage. Dose adjustment should be done based on the clinical condition.
Food interactions
Taking caffeine along with Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER can increase the sleeplessness, nervousness, and anxiety.
Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER will not show its desired effects if consumed with dairy products (yoghurt and curd). At least two hours gap should be maintained between Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER and dairy products.
Lab interactions

Multivitamins with minerals

Avoid using Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER along with multivitamins with minerals. If needed it is suggested to use before 2 to 4 hours of taking multivitamins with minerals or after 4 to 6 hours of taking multivitamins with minerals.
Take Unicip Er 500 MG Tablet ER as instructed by the doctor. Never take more than the prescribed dose. Take this tablet at around the same time daily. Do not give your medicine to other people even if their condition appears to be the same as yours.
