Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup is a combination of Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid. Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup is used orally to treat many bacterial infections of the lungs, middle ear, sinuses, skin, teeth, and urinary tract. Amoxycillin interferes with the growth and division process of the bacterial cell wall while Clavulanic acid enhances the activity of Amoxycillin against bacteria. The common side effects of Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup use are nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, and skin rash. Consult your child's doctor at the earliest if any of these side effects persist or worsen. Before giving this medicine to your child, inform your doctor if your child is allergic to any antibiotics or has experienced any allergic reactions after taking antibiotics. You can give Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup to your child with food as it improves absorption and decreases the risks of stomach upset. Your child's doctor will decide the dose and frequency based on the severity of the infection, your child's body weight and age. Stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed. Also, ensure to complete the course of treatment even if your child starts feeling better. This medicine is generally meant to be used in children. However, your doctor may prescribe this medicine to patients who cannot swallow a tablet or capsule. Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup can cause diarrhoea because it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. Get emergency medical help if you experience severe diarrhoea that is watery or bloody.

Antibiotic resistance

Usage of Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing (overuse of antibiotics) might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of the development of bacteria that are antibiotic-resistant.

Liver disease

Regular monitoring of the liver enzyme levels is necessary while taking Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup and even after treatment with this medicine is complete.

Form of medication

Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup is normally used in the case of pediatric (children) patients. However, adult patients who are unable to chew or swallow the solid form can use the liquid form under your doctor's supervision.

Missed Dose

Mononucleosis (kissing disease) may develop a maculopapular skin rash after 5-10 days of treatment with this medicine and resolves within days of discontinuing the use. Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup may not be appropriate medicine in patients with mononucleosis.


Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup can kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine and leads to diarrhoea. Therefore, use this tablet with extreme caution if there is colitis (swelling of the inner lining of the colon).

Kidney Disease

Patients with kidney diseases need special consideration while taking Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup due to the risk of kidney damage. Dose adjustment should be done based on the clinical condition.

Urine Sugar Test (Benedict's of Fehling's reagent)

High urine concentrations of Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup might give a false-positive result for the urine sugar test (test to determine the presence of glucose).
Give Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup orally to your child with food to decrease the upset stomach. Your child must complete the entire course of Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup. Stopping the treatment early may cause the bacteria to multiply again, become resistant, or cause another infection. Your child may have a bitter taste in the mouth after the intake of Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup. Eating citrus fruit or sipping plenty of water or fruit juice may help. Encourage your child to drink plenty of water in case diarrhoea develops as a side effect. Never give Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup until and unless prescribed by your child's doctor. You must never share your child’s medicine with anyone else even if they show similar symptoms. Do not give Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup to treat the common cold and flu-like symptoms caused by viruses. Never save medicine for future illnesses. It cannot be said whether the same medicine will work on future infections. Discard the medicine if the seal is broken or the appearance of the liquid changes. Stop Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup immediately if your child develops an itchy rash, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. Report to your doctor without any delay.

How it works
Symbiotik XL (200/28.5 mg) Syrup is a combination of Amoxycillin and Clavulanic acid. Amoxycillin binds to certain specific receptors and prevents the formation of a necessary component for the cell wall building process. Clavulanic acid is effective against a specific species of bacteria that are resistant to other antibiotic medicines. Thus, the combination becomes effective against a wide range of bacteria.
