Description

Prokem 250 MG Tablet is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections such as Bronchitis, Pneumonia, Gonococcal infection and certain types of infectious diarrhea. This medicine can also be used to treat urinary tract infections, plague and anthrax. Caution is advised while using this medicine in the elderly population since it may increase the risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture.

    Prokem 250 MG Tablet is used in the treatment of Community-Acquired Pneumonia which is a most common type of lung infection caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae.

    Prokem 250 MG Tablet is used in the treatment of bronchitis which is an inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and some Mycoplasma Pneumonia.
  • Pyelonephritis

    Prokem 250 MG Tablet is used in the treatment of Pyelonephritis which is a type of kidney infection caused by E.coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococci and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
  • Cystitis

Contraindications of Prokem 250 MG Tablet

  • Allergy

    This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a known allergy to Prokem 250 MG Tablet or any other medicines belonging to the class fluoroquinolones.
  • Tendinitis or tendon rupture

    This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a past history of tendinitis or tendon rupture after using Prokem 250 MG Tablet.
  • Myasthenia gravis

    This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a past history or family history of Myasthenia Gravis (weakness and rapid fatigue of muscles under voluntary control).

Dosage

  • Missed Dose

    Oral forms: The missed dose of Prokem 250 MG Tablet should be taken as soon as possible. It is advisable to skip the missed dose if it is already the time for your next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed dose. Since Prokem 250 MG Tablet injection is mostly administered by a healthcare professional in a clinical setting, the likelihood of missing a dose is very low.
  • Overdose

    Oral forms: Seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor in case of an overdose with Prokem 250 MG Tablet. Injection: Since this medicine is administered in the hospital setting by a qualified healthcare professional, the likelihood of an overdose is very less. However, emergency medical treatment will be initiated by the doctor if an overdose is suspected.

    Use of Prokem 250 MG Tablet in patients with CNS disorders may experience tremors, restlessness, anxiety, confusion and hallucinations. It is advised not to take caffeine-containing products like coffee, chocolates and energy drinks while on treatment with this medicine.
  • Colitis

    It is not recommended to take Prokem 250 MG Tablet if you experience severe diarrhea, abdominal pain, and blood in stools after taking the medicine. Inform the doctor if you have any gastrointestinal diseases. Drink adequate amount of water to prevent dehydration.
  • QT Prolongation

    Use of Prokem 250 MG Tablet is not recommended if you experience any chest discomfort. Regular cardiac function tests are to be performed if you have any heart disease (arrhythmia) or family history of heart disease.

General warnings

  • Tendinitis and tendon rupture

    - Use of Prokem 250 MG Tablet will increase the risk to develop tendinitis or tendon rupture during the treatment or several months after treatment. It will affect the shoulder, hand, the back of your ankle, or other parts of your body. The risk is more if you are above 60 years of age and have a history of kidney, heart, or lung transplant and joint disease. You are also at high risk if you are on corticosteroids like dexamethasone, methylprednisolone or prednisone.
  • Drug-resistance

    - Usage of Prokem 250 MG Tablet without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that is drug resistant.
  • Alternative treatment

    - Prokem 250 MG Tablet will increase the risk of developing serious side effects. It should reserved for use only if you have no alternative treatment options for acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis or uncomplicated cystitis.
