Description
Potrate-5 Tablet is an alkalinizing agent which is used for the prevention and treatment of kidney stones. This medicine works by neutralizing stone-forming salts in your urine, therefore treating and reducing your risk for kidney stones. Potrate-5 Tablet may cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, stomach discomfort, tiredness and weakness. Most of them are temporary and go away on their own. Consult your doctor if these side effects are getting persistent and/or worse. Potrate-5 Tablet with food to avoid stomach discomfort. Your dose will be dependent on your condition. Take the medicine same time every day to maintain a constant level of medicine in your body. Do not stop taking this medicine without consulting with your doctor as your symptoms could come back. Potrate-5 Tablet is not recommended if you are allergic to it or have severe kidney problems. Inform your doctor all about your current medications and existing medical conditions. This will help your doctor to adjust your dose for avoiding side effects. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, consult your doctor before using this medicine.

Severe kidney impairment

Potrate-5 Tablet is not preferred if you have severe kidney problems as this medicine is reported to increase the blood levels of potassium, which can not be filtered properly by impaired kidneys. This may lead to serious conditions of the heart and blood vessels.

Hyperkalemia

Decreased purification of blood in conditions like kidney stones and renal tubular acidosis may result in increased levels of potassium in the blood. Treatment with Potrate-5 Tablet during these conditions worsen the risk of increasing the blood potassium levels.

Allergy

Avoid taking Potrate-5 Tablet if you are allergic to it. Seek immediate medical attention if you notice any symptoms of allergic reactions such as skin rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, breathing difficulty, etc.

Pregnancy

Potrate-5 Tablet is not recommended for use in pregnant women as not enough studies are done to understand its safety and efficacy. Consult with your doctor before using this medicine.

Breast-feeding

It is not known whether Potrate-5 Tablet passes into breast milk or if it could harm a nursing baby. Inform your doctor if you are breastfeeding before using this medicine.
General warnings

Gastrointestinal irritation

In some cases of long-term therapy, Potrate-5 Tablet has been reported to cause gastrointestinal irritation (discomfort in your stomach and intestines). Hence take this medicine with caution if you have any stomach and intestines problems like acidity, diarrhoea, constipation, stomach ulcers, etc.

Dehydration

Potrate-5 Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have/had dehydration as it may alter the fluid balance in your body, worsening your condition. Your doctor will closely monitor your fluid levels and/or adjust your dose if required.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose of Potrate-5 Tablet as soon as you remember. If it is time for your next dose, skip the missed dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed dose.

Overdose

Seek emergency medical treatment in case of an overdose of Potrate-5 Tablet.

Take Potrate-5 Tablet tablet with food. Drink plenty of water to avoid stomach problems and easy removal of kidney stones. Do not break, crush or chew the tablets. Take Potrate-5 Tablet solution with water. Shake the bottle well before use. Potrate-5 Tablet solution provides symptomatic relief from urinary problems. It does not kill the bacteria. Consult your doctor if your condition is not getting better. Do not use this medicine after the expiry date. Throw away the unused medicine safely. Keep it away from children and pets. Do not take in larger amounts than prescribed. Consult the doctor if you experience any undesirable effects.

How it works
Potrate-5 Tablet consists of Potassium citrate which works by alkalizing the stone-forming salts such as calcium phosphate, calcium oxalate, and uric acid thereby dissolving the kidney stones. It also raises urinary pH and makes the urine less acidic.
