Description

Ormed 500 mg Tablet is an effective medicine to treat infections caused by protozoa and certain strains of anaerobic bacteria. It is used to treat infections of the stomach, intestine, urinary tract and genital area. It is also used to prevent possible infections during a surgical procedure.

Renal/Hepatic impairment

Epilepsy

This medicine should be used with caution in patients suffering from epilepsy or other convulsion disorders.

Multiple sclerosis

This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients suffering from this neurodegenerative disorder of the brain.

Drowsiness

Use of this medicine has been associated with drowsiness in some patients. It is advised to refrain from driving and operating heavy machinery at least in the initial phase of treatment with this medicine.

Missed Dose

Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose then the missed dose can be skipped.

Interaction with Alcohol

Description

Use of alcohol or products containing alcohol during ornidazole therapy may result in a disulfiram-like reaction in some patients. There have been a few case reports involving metronidazole but the evidence is inconclusive. The proposed mechanism is metronidazole inhibition of aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) similar to disulfiram.
