Description
Mycotuf-C Tablet is an antibiotic used to treat active pulmonary and extra-pulmonary tuberculosis (including kidney disease) caused by the susceptible organisms in patients who failed to respond with conventional therapy. This medicine is usually given in combination with other effective therapeutic agents. This medicine may also be used for the treatment of urinary tract infections in adult patients who are not responding to the primary treatment.

General warnings

Alcohol use

Excessive concurrent use of alcohol is contraindicated while on treatment with this medicine. The risk of seizures is high in patients with the history of alcoholism.

Central nervous system toxicity

This medicine should be discontinued or dose should be reduced if the patient experiences any central nervous system toxicity such as convulsions, psychosis, sleepiness, depression, confusion, headache, tremor, vertigo, etc.

Culture and sensitivity

Before initiating treatment with this medicine, cultures should be taken and the susceptibility of the organism to the medicine should be established. In tuberculous infections, sensitivity to the other anti-tuberculous agents in the regimen should also be demonstrated.

Driving and operating machinery

Use of this medicine may cause blurred vision or dizziness in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms.

Laboratory tests

Close monitoring of blood levels of this medicine is necessary, especially in patients with an impaired kidney function. Blood levels of greater than 30 mg/L are associated with toxicity. The dosage adjustments should be done to keep the blood levels of this medicine below 30 mg/L to avoid the undesired outcomes.

Vitamin B12 and/or folic acid deficiency

Mycotuf-C Tablet and other antituberculous drugs have been associated with vitamin B12 and/or folic acid deficiency, megaloblastic anemia, and sideroblastic anemia. If evidence of anemia develops during treatment, appropriate investigations and corrective treatment should be initiated.

Kidney disease

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with kidney disease due to the increased risk of adverse effects. Regular monitoring of kidney function tests is necessary while receiving this medicine. Appropriate dose adjustments or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition.

Missed Dose

The missed dose should be taken as soon as possible. It is advisable to skip the missed dose if it is already time for your next scheduled dose. Do not double your dose to make up for the missed one.
