Description
Lycin 500 mg Syrup is an antibiotic medicine used in treating bacterial infections. It is available in different dosage forms such as a capsule, syrup/suspension, injection and gel. The oral and injectable forms of this medicine are used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs, skin, bones, joints, stomach, and intestine. The topical form is used to treat acne. Lycin 500 mg Syrup stops the growth of bacteria that causes infection. Lycin 500 mg Syrup is an antibacterial medicine, hence it is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Lycin 500 mg Syrup may cause certain side effects like diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, skin rash, itching/irritation, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Contact your doctor if these side effects become severe or persist for a longer duration. Avoid using Lycin 500 mg Syrup if you are allergic to it. The capsule forms of Lincomycin are not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age. Lycin 500 mg Syrup is one of the effective antibiotics given to infants, children and adults. Lycin 500 mg Syrup should be taken on an empty stomach in a dose prescribed by your doctor. Lycin 500 mg Syrup injectables will be given by your doctor in the hospital setting. For topical forms, apply the required amount of this medicine to the affected area as advised by your doctor. Make sure to complete the treatment course because stopping the antibiotic treatment abruptly may develop resistance. This may relapse your infection. Lycin 500 mg Syrup should be used with caution if you have gastrointestinal problems, particularly colitis (swelling of the inner lining of the colon) as it may cause severe diarrhoea making your condition worse. This medicine may not be suitable for all people. Inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver problems before taking this medicine. Also, inform your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding before initiating the treatment.

General warnings

Diarrhoea

Lycin 500 mg Syrup may kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine which can lead to diarrhoea. Get emergency medical help if you experience severe diarrhoea that is watery or bloody.

Gasping syndrome

Use of Lincomycin injection containing benzyl alcohol may cause a gasping syndrome in newborn babies.

Antibiotic resistance

Finish the complete course of treatment with Lycin 500 mg Syrup, even if your condition improves. Abrupt stopping of antibiotic treatment may not kill all the bacteria and the remaining bacteria may become resistant to the antibiotic.

Skin reactions

Lycin 500 mg Syrup may cause serious skin reactions characterised by rash, peeling skin, swelling of your face or tongue, skin blisters in or around your nose, mouth, and eyes. Discontinue the medicine and inform your doctor if you experience these symptoms.

External use only

The topical forms of lincomycin are recommended for external use only. Avoid direct contact with eyes, mucous membranes, or open wounds.

Use in children

Lincomycin capsule forms are not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age, since the safety and efficacy data is not available.

Missed Dose

Oral forms: Try not to skip a scheduled dose of Lycin 500 mg Syrup. In case the scheduled dose of Lycin 500 mg Syrup is forgotten, take it as soon as you remember. If it got delayed for more than 12 hours, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the usual time, but do not double the dose. Injectable forms: It is always important to take your lincomycin injection at a scheduled time. If you missed taking the dose, inform your doctor as soon as you remember, and get an appointment for further instructions. Topical forms: Apply the missed dose of lincomycin gel as soon as you remember. Do not apply in more quantities to compensate for the missed dose.

Overdose

Oral forms: Never take more than the prescribed dose. Seek emergency medical treatment or contact your doctor in case you suspect an overdose of Lycin 500 mg Syrup. Injectable form: Lincomycin injection is administered in a hospital setting by your doctor, so the likelihood of an overdose is rare. Contact your doctor if an overdose with Lincomycin is suspected. Topical forms: An overdose of Lycin 500 mg Syrup is not likely to cause severe symptoms unless it is applied for a long duration and in large quantities. However, swallowing this medicine may cause harm and immediate medical intervention may be required.
