Description
LACTAGARD 1.5 GM INJECTION is a combination of medicines cefoperazone and sulbactam. It is an antibiotic used to treat infections of the respiratory tract (organs involved in breathing), urinary tract (organs that make urine and remove it from the body), bones, joints, and skin and soft tissue, etc. This medicine works by preventing the formation of the bacterial cell wall which is important for the growth of bacteria. LACTAGARD 1.5 GM INJECTION shows side effects like nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, anaemia (low number of red blood cells), etc. LACTAGARD 1.5 GM INJECTION should only be administered by a qualified doctor or nurse. Make sure to take the complete course of this medicine, even if you feel better. LACTAGARD 1.5 GM INJECTION is not recommended if you are allergic to Cefoperazone or Sulbactam. Inform your doctor if you have any problems related to the kidney, liver, or heart. General warnings

Kidney impairment

LACTAGARD 1.5 GM INJECTION should be used with caution if you have a history of kidney problems. This medicine is excreted through the kidney, and any impairment in kidney function may lead to its accumulation in the body, resulting in an increased risk of side effects.

Drug resistance

Avoid using LACTAGARD 1.5 GM INJECTION without your doctor's prescription. Your doctor may prescribe antibiotics based on the bacteria causing the infection and if the medicine is used for the wrong bacterial infection it may cause antibiotic resistance.

Diarrhoea

LACTAGARD 1.5 GM INJECTION may kill gut-friendly bacteria which may promote the growth of an undesired bacteria called Clostridium difficile, resulting in diarrhoea. Consult your doctor for dose adjustment or replacement.

Liver diseases

Benedict's or Fehling's Test is used to test the sugar levels in urine. Avoid taking LACTAGARD 1.5 GM INJECTION as it may give a false-positive result for the presence of sugar in your urine.

Coomb's test

Avoid use of LACTAGARD 1.5 GM INJECTION as it may give a false-positive result for the Coombs test. This test is used to detect anaemia caused by the excessive destruction of your red blood cells. An alternative test may be used during treatment with this medicine.
