Description

Klacid 500 MG Injection is a bactericidal antibiotic used for the treatment of various infections caused by bacteria. This medicine is not recommended for use in case of a common cold, flu, or other viral infections since it is active against infections caused by bacteria only.

It is also not recommended for use in patients with a history of severe hepatic impairment along with renal impairment due to the increased risk of serious adverse effects.

General warnings

Impaired liver function

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a known history of an impaired liver function due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Close monitoring of liver function, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition of the patient.

QT prolongation

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a known history of arrhythmias, heart diseases, and patients who are on medicines that prolong QT intervals such as psychiatric drugs and anti-arrhythmic drugs due to the increased risk of worsening of the patient's condition. Replacement with a suitable alternative should be considered based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Drug-resistance

Usage of this medicine without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that are drug resistant.

Impaired kidney function

This medicine should be used with caution in patients with a known history of an impaired kidney function due to the increased risk of severe adverse effects. Close monitoring of kidney function, appropriate dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be required in some cases based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Skin reactions

Usage of this medicine is known to cause severe skin reactions such as toxic epidermal necrolysis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS), Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS), etc. in rare cases, sometimes with fatal outcomes. Report any unusual symptoms to the doctor on priority. Appropriate corrective measures, dose adjustments, or replacement with a suitable alternative may be necessary based on the clinical condition of the patient.

Driving or Operating machinery

Use of this medicine may cause dizziness in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience dizziness during treatment with this medicine.

Intravenous Administration

This medicine is not recommended for administration as a bolus/IV push. It should be administered only by a slow intravenous infusion over a period of 60 minutes.
