Description
Heximar Ointment is a synthetic form of vitamin D. It is used for the treatment of plaque psoriasis (a skin condition characterized by thick red patches of skin, and a white/silver scaly layer). It works by slowing down the excessive production of skin cells. Heximar Ointment may cause burning sensation, itching, irritation and redness of your skin at the site of application. Consult your doctor if these symptoms persist or worsen. Heximar Ointment should be applied topically to the affected part of your skin as directed by your doctor. Continue using this medicine for the prescribed duration to avoid a flare-up of your symptoms. Heximar Ointment should be avoided if you are allergic to it. This medicine is not recommended for use in children below six years of age. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or are planning a pregnancy, consult your doctor before using this medication.

Allergy

Calcium metabolism disorders

Heximar Ointment is not recommended if you have calcium metabolism disorders (conditions that affect the absorption of calcium in your body) due to the increased risk of hypercalcaemia (high blood calcium levels).

Hypercalcaemia

Hypercalcaemia is a condition with high blood calcium levels. Heximar Ointment is not recommended if you have hypercalcaemia as this medicine may further increase your blood calcium levels and cause severe side effects.

Severe kidney/liver impairment

Kidney/liver impairment is a condition with reduced kidney/liver function. Heximar Ointment is not recommended if you have severe kidney/liver impairment due to the increased risk of severe side effects.

Pregnancy

Due to a lack of safety and efficacy studies, it is not known whether Heximar Ointment use during pregnancy will affect your developing foetus. If you are pregnant, consult your doctor.

Breast-feeding

General warnings

Other medicines

Heximar Ointment may interact with other medicines meant for topical use. Concomitant use of this medicine and other topical medicines on the same area of skin should therefore be avoided. Inform your doctor about all the topical preparations (ointments/lotions/gels) that you may have been using to avoid undesired side effects.

For external use only

Heximar Ointment is meant for external use only. Avoid contact with your eyes. In case of accidental contact with your eyes, rinse thoroughly with water. Avoid contact with your face as this medicine may cause skin irritation.

Use in children

Heximar Ointment is not recommended for use in children below six years of age due to a lack of safety and efficacy studies.

Exposure to sunlight

It is recommended to avoid excessive exposure to sunlight while on treatment with Heximar Ointment due to the increased risk of undesired effects.

Missed Dose

Try not to miss a dose of Heximar Ointment. In case of a missed dose, apply it as soon as you remember.

Overdose

Do not apply more than the prescribed dose. Use of Heximar Ointment above the recommended dose may cause increased blood calcium levels and may increase your risk of polyuria (excessive urination), constipation, muscle weakness, confusion and coma.

Heximar Ointment is meant for external use only. Use this medicine as directed by your doctor. Do not apply Heximar Ointment to your face, as this medicine may cause skin irritation. Close the cover of the tube immediately after use to keep it clean and free from contamination. Do not wipe or rinse the tip of the tube. Use Heximar Ointment at around the same time every day for ease of remembrance. Do not discontinue the use of this medicine without consulting your doctor. Do not cover the application area with bandages or other coverings. Do not give Heximar Ointment to others even if their condition appears to be the same as yours.
