Description
Gram 500 MG Tablet is an antibiotic medicine that contains cefuroxime. It is used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs, nose, throat, ears, skin, bladder, etc. It is also used to treat a sexually transmitted disease caused by Neisseria gonorrhoea bacteria that infects both men and women. It kills the bacteria, thereby stops the infection from spreading. Gram 500 MG Tablet is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Your doctor may advise this medicine alone or in combination with other medications to treat bacterial infections. Gram 500 MG Tablet may cause side effects like diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Contact your doctor if these symptoms persist. Do not take this medicine if you are previously allergic to it. Gram 500 MG Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age. Gram 500 MG Tablet is recommended to take with food to avoid gastric irritation. Your doctor will decide the dose of this medicine based on the severity of your infection. For the ease of remembering, take this tablet around the same time every day. Once an antibiotic is started, it is always recommended to finish the entire course of treatment. Taking an antibiotic when it is not required can make it less effective in treating further infections. Gram 500 MG Tablet desired effect may not be achieved when taken with medications like antacids or proton pump inhibitors. Therefore, take Gram 500 MG Tablet at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking such medications. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, before using Gram 500 MG Tablet.

General warnings

Diarrhoea

Gram 500 MG Tablet can cause diarrhoea because it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. Inform your doctor if you experience severe diarrhoea while using this medicine.

Antibiotic resistance

The entire course of treatment with Gram 500 MG Tablet should be completed, to avoid antibiotic resistance (microorganisms develop the ability to defeat the antibiotics) even if your condition gets better after taking few doses.

Driving or operating machinery

Gram 500 MG Tablet may cause dizziness, confusion, or fits. Do not drive a vehicle or operate machinery after taking this medicine.

Antacids

If you are taking an antacid containing aluminium and magnesium salts for indigestion, they can delay the effects of Gram 500 MG Tablet. Hence, it is recommended to take this medicine at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking antacids.

Missed Dose

Do not skip a dose of Gram 500 MG Tablet. If you forgot to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If the time for your next dose is near skip the missed dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed one.

Overdose

Never take more than the prescribed dose. Seek emergency medical attention if you suspect that you might have taken an overdose ofGram 500 MG Tablet.

Colitis

Colitis is the inflammation of the large intestine. Gram 500 MG Tablet can kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine and leads to diarrhoea. Therefore use this medicine with extreme caution if you have any stomach and intestinal diseases, particularly colitis, as it may worsen your condition.

Liver disease

Gram 500 MG Tablet may increase liver enzyme levels. Hence, maintain caution while taking Gram 500 MG Tablet as it can increase the risk of liver damage.

Seizure disorders

Avoid using Gram 500 MG Tablet or maintain caution if you have seizures, as it can worsen your condition. Your doctor may adjust the dose of this medicine if required.

Kidney diseases

Gram 500 MG Tablet is filtered by the kidney and excreted through urine. An impaired kidney can lead to its accumulation and toxicity. Hence, maintain caution while taking Gram 500 MG Tablet as it can increase the risk of kidney damage.
