Description
Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT is an antibiotic medicine that contains cefpodoxime. It is used to treat bacterial infections of the lungs, nose, throat, ears, skin, bladder, etc. It kills the bacteria, thereby stops the infection from spreading. Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Your doctor may advise this medicine alone or in combination with other medications to treat bacterial infections. Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT has side effects like diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Consult your doctor if any side effects are seen for a longer period. Do not take this medicine if you are previously allergic to it. Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age. Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT can be taken with food for better absorption. The dose of the tablet will be decided by your doctor based on the severity of your infection. For the ease of remembering, take it at the same time every day. Once the antibiotic is started, ensure that the entire course of treatment is completed. Avoid unnecessary use of Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT as excessive use may cause the bacteria to become resistant to antibiotics. Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT effects may be delayed when taken with medications that reduce the production of stomach acids like antacids, proton pump inhibitors or H2 blockers. Therefore, take Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking antacids. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, before using Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT.

General warnings

Diarrhoea

Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT can cause diarrhoea because it may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. Inform your doctor if you experience severe diarrhoea while using this medicine.

Seizures

Use Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT with caution if you have a seizure episode or fits because it can worsen your condition.

Antibiotic resistance

The entire course of treatment with Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT should be completed to avoid antibiotic resistance (microorganisms develop the ability to defeat the antibiotics), even if the condition gets better after taking few doses.

Driving or operating machinery

Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT may cause dizziness, confusion, or fits. Do not drive a vehicle or operate machinery after taking this medicine.

Antacids

If you are taking an antacid containing aluminium and magnesium salts for indigestion, they can delay the effects of Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT. Hence, it is recommended to take this medicine at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking antacids.

Use in children

Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT is not recommended for use in children below 12 years of age as the safety and efficacy are not established.

Missed Dose

Do not skip a dose of Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT. If you forgot to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. And if the time for your next dose is nearer, do not double the dose to compensate for the missed one.

Overdose

Never take more than the prescribed dose of Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT. Seek emergency medical attention if you suspect that you might have taken an overdose of Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT.

Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT is filtered by the kidney and excreted through urine. An impaired kidney can lead to its accumulation and toxicity. Hence, maintain caution while taking Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT as it can increase the risk of kidney damage.

Coombs test

The Coombs' test is used to detect antibodies that act against the surface of your red blood cells. The presence of these antibodies indicates a condition known as hemolytic anaemia. Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT may give a false-positive result when the coombs test is performed.
Take Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT with food for better absorption. Dissolve the tablet in a teaspoonful or a glass of boiled and cooled water before taking it. Take this medicine at around the same time daily. Never take more than the prescribed dose. Complete the entire treatment course with Cefpotas 50 MG Tablet DT to avoid antibiotic resistance. Consult your doctor if you experience any undesirable effects. Keep away from the reach of children and pets. Do not use it after the expiry date. Ensure that unused medicine is disposed of properly.
