Description

Pentanerv 100 MG Tablet is a medicine that contains Gabapentin as an active ingredient. It is used to treat partial-onset seizures in epilepsy. It is also used to treat postherpetic neuralgia (a painful condition that affects the nerve fibres and skin). Postherpetic neuralgia is a complication of shingles caused by the chickenpox virus which causes pain or burning sensation of the skin. Pentanerv 100 MG Tablet can cause side effects like fatigue, loss of coordination, dry mouth, etc. Consult your doctor if these side effects become severe. Avoid driving or operating machines as this medicine can cause dizziness, drowsiness and can affect your mental focus. This medicine may cause mood and behavioural changes. If you experience mood changes or suicidal thoughts, contact your doctor immediately. Do not take this medicine if you are allergic to it. Pentanerv 100 MG Tablet can be taken with or without food as prescribed by your doctor. Your dose will be dependant on your condition. You should keep taking this medicine for the prescribed duration, even if you feel better after few doses. Take this medicine same time every day for the ease of remembering. Pentanerv 100 MG Tablet is not recommended in children less than 6 years of age. Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease or any other medical conditions. It is not recommended if you are pregnant, or are breastfeeding. If stopped abruptly, you might experience withdrawal symptoms like anxiety, fatigue, sweating, vomiting, depression, seizures, and hallucinations.

What is it prescribed for?

Epilepsy

Epilepsy is caused by an abnormal brain activity that causes seizures. This medicine is used to treat partial-onset seizures (fits), which is a common type of epilepsy in adults and children aged 3 years and above.

Postherpetic neuralgia

Pentanerv 100 MG Tablet is used to treat postherpetic neuralgia, a condition that affects nerves and skin. It is a complication of shingles, which is caused by the chickenpox (Herpes zoster) virus characterized by pain or burning sensation of the skin.

Neuropathic pain

Neuropathic pain refers to pain due to nerve injury or damage. You may experience shooting or burning pain with a feeling of numbness or a loss of sensation in this condition. Pentanerv 100 MG Tablet is used in the treatment of neuropathic pain.

Skin reactions

Pentanerv 100 MG Tablet should be used with caution since it may cause skin reactions like Drug reactions with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms (DRESS). The treatment should be discontinued if any symptoms of a skin rash appear.

Driving or operating machinery

Pentanerv 100 MG Tablet may cause dizziness or drowsiness. It is advised that you do not perform any activities that require high mental alertness like driving a vehicle or operating a machine if you experience any of these symptoms after taking this medicine.

Avoid taking this medicine with an antacid as it can reduce the absorption of Pentanerv 100 MG Tablet.
