Description
Ornida 125 mg Syrup is an effective medicine to treat infections caused by protozoa and certain strains of anaerobic bacteria. It is used to treat infections of the stomach, intestine, urinary tract and genital area. It is also used to prevent possible infections during a surgical procedure.

Uses of Ornida 125 mg Syrup
What is it prescribed for?
Amebiasis
This medicine is used for the treatment of infection of the intestine caused by Entamoeba histolytica strains of protozoa. Most prominent symptoms are loose stools, cramps and pain in the stomach. The parasites can also enter other organs and cause abscesses and other complications.
Amoebic dysentry
This medicine is used for the treatment of severe diarrhea with blood, stomach pain and cramps, tiredness, and swelling of the intestine. It is mainly caused due to infections caused by various strains of amoeba.
Giardiasis
This medicine is used for the treatment of intestinal infection caused by Giardia lambia strains of protozoa. It is characterized by diarrhea, fever, fatigue, foul smelling stool etc.
Trichomoniasis
This medicine is used for the treatment of sexually transmitted disease caused by Trichomonas vaginalis strain. The symptoms are dominant in women and include abnormal and foul smelling discharge from the vagina.
Bacterial Vaginosis
This medicine is used for the treatment of bacterial overgrowth in the vaginal area. It is characterized by abnormal and foul smelling discharge.
Anaerobic bacterial infections
This medicine is also used to treat infections caused by anaerobic bacteria in organs like liver, respiratory tract, heart, bones etc.
Surgical prophylaxis
This medicine is also used to prevent the chances of infection while a surgical procedure is performed.

Renal/Hepatic impairment
This medicine should be used with caution in patients having an impairment of the kidney/liver function. Use is not recommended if the impairment is severe. Appropriate dose adjustments and more frequent monitoring are advised if the impairment is mild to moderate.
Epilepsy
This medicine should be used with caution in patients suffering from epilepsy or other convulsion disorders.
Multiple sclerosis
This medicine should be used with extreme caution in patients suffering from this neurodegenerative disorder of the brain.
Drowsiness
Use of this medicine has been associated with drowsiness in some patients. It is advised to refrain from driving and operating heavy machinery at least in the initial phase of treatment with this medicine.
Missed Dose
Take the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for the next scheduled dose then the missed dose can be skipped.
Overdose
Seek emergency medical treatment or contact the doctor in case of an overdose.

Interaction with Alcohol
Description
Use of alcohol or products containing alcohol during ornidazole therapy may result in a disulfiram-like reaction in some patients. There have been a few case reports involving metronidazole but the evidence is inconclusive. The proposed mechanism is metronidazole inhibition of aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH) similar to disulfiram.
