Description

Mahacef 25 MG Drops is an antibiotic medicine that contains cefixime as an active ingredient. It is used to treat bacterial infections affecting the lungs, throat, and urinary tract (kidneys, bladder, ureters, or urethra). It is also used to treat a sexually transmitted infection called gonorrhoea that infects both men and women. This suspension kills or stops the growth of bacteria that causes infection. It is not effective against infections caused by viruses. Mahacef 25 MG Drops can cause some side effects like diarrhoea, stomach pain, headache, weakness, nausea, and vomiting. Do not take this medicine if you are previously allergic to it. Do not drive a vehicle or operate machinery after taking this medicine as it can cause dizziness. It is likely to cause allergic skin reactions in some people. This medicine is not recommended for use in children below the age of 6 months. Mahacef 25 MG Drops can be taken with or without food. The treatment duration and dosage should be followed as prescribed to avoid bacterial resistance. It should not be taken when it is not required as that can make it less effective for future infections. Mahacef 25 MG Drops may not be safe for use in pregnancy/breastfeeding as the data is insufficient, consult your doctor before using it. Inform your doctor if you are diabetic or having kidney/heart diseases before taking this medicine. Consult your doctor if your symptoms do not improve even after completing the treatment course.

What is it prescribed for?

Tonsilitis/Pharyngitis

Pharyngitis and tonsillitis are infections that cause swelling and soreness in the throat and tonsils. If it is the infection affects both the throat and the tonsils, then it would be called pharyngotonsillitis. Mahacef 25 MG Drops is used to treat pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and/or pharyngotonsillitis.

Bronchitis

Bronchitis is the swelling and irritation of bronchial tubes that regulates air passage in the lungs. Mahacef 25 MG Drops is used to treat acute bronchitis caused by bacteria.

Gonorrhoea

Gonorrhoea is a sexually transmitted infection (STI) caused by Neisseria gonorrhoea bacteria that infects both men and women. It spreads during vaginal, oral or anal sex without using a condom or other barrier method. Mahacef 25 MG Drops is used to treat the gonococcal infection.

Acute bacterial otitis media

Otitis media (AOM), is an infection of the middle ear (the area behind the eardrum), common in infants and young children. Mahacef 25 MG Drops is used to treat acute otitis media caused by bacteria.

Urinary tract infections

An infection in any part of your urinary system (kidneys, bladder, ureters, or urethra) is called a urinary tract infection (UTI). Clostridium difficile-Associated Diarrhoea

Mahacef 25 MG Drops may also kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine. This leads to an overgrowth of the Clostridium bacteria which releases a toxin that causes severe diarrhoea. Seek medical help if you experience severe diarrhoea that is watery or bloody. Consult your pharmacist/doctor before taking anti-diarrhoeal medication.

Antibiotic resistance

Finish your entire course of treatment with Mahacef 25 MG Drops, even if the condition gets better to avoid antibiotic resistance (the bacteria may become resistant to antibiotics). If you still feel unwell after completing your antibiotic course, consult your doctor.

Seizures

Use Mahacef 25 MG Drops with caution if you have seizures or fits because it can trigger the condition. Seizure medicines can be continued by consulting your doctor. Your doctor may adjust the dose of this medicine if required based on your clinical condition.

Allergic skin reaction

Mahacef 25 MG Drops can kill the helpful bacteria in your stomach or intestine and leads to diarrhoea. Use Mahacef 25 MG Drops with extreme caution if you have gastrointestinal diseases, particularly colitis (swelling of the inner lining of the colon), as it may worsen your condition.

Use Mahacef 25 MG Drops with extreme caution if have kidney diseases due to the risk of kidney damage. Your doctor may adjust the dose of this medicine if required based on your clinical condition.

A false-positive result may be obtained if this test is performed while using Mahacef 25 MG Drops.

Urine ketones test

Mahacef 25 MG Drops may give a false-positive result for ketones in the urine tests using nitroprusside.
Take Mahacef 25 MG Drops with or without food. Never take more than the prescribed dose. Do not take antacids within 2 hours of taking Mahacef 25 MG Drops as they affect its absorption. Usage instructions- Add the recommended amount of water to the powdered Mahacef 25 MG Drops. Shake the bottle well before measuring the dose. Measure an appropriate dose using the measuring spoon or dropper. Once the powder is reconstituted, it can be stored at room temperature for a maximum of 14 days. Consult your doctor immediately if diarrhoea or allergic reactions occur after using this medicine. Keep away from the reach of children and pets. Do not use it after the expiry date. Ensure that unused medicine is disposed of properly. Do not give your medicine to other people even if their condition appears to be the same as yours.
