Description

Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet is a medicine that consists of Benidipine, Chlorthalidone and Telmisartan. It is an anti-hypertensive medicine used for the treatment of high blood pressure. This medicine works by relaxing your blood vessels, making the blood flow better with less effort, thus lowering your blood pressure. This will reduce your risk of having a heart attack (a blockage of blood flow to the heart muscle) or a stroke (a condition that causes damage to the brain from interruption of its blood supply) by making it easier for your heart to pump blood around your body. Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet shows some common side effects like swelling in your ankles or feet, back pain, headache, nausea, diarrhoea, and stomach pain. Most of these are temporary and usually resolve with time. Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet can also cause sleepiness and dizziness, so you should not drive or do any activity that requires mental focus after taking this medicine. Avoid consuming alcohol with this medicine as it can worsen dizziness. Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet can be taken with or without food. The dose will be decided by your doctor, depending on your blood pressure levels. Do not stop using this medicine without consulting your doctor as abrupt discontinuation may worsen your condition. Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet is not recommended for use if you are allergic to it. If you have any pre-existing kidney or liver problems, or other medical conditions, inform your doctor about them. Inform your doctor about all medicines and supplements you are taking as this medicine can interact with them and can cause side effects. Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet is not recommended for use in children below 18 years of age. Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, or are breastfeeding. Allergy

Avoid taking Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet if you are allergic to benidipine, chlorthalidone, telmisartan or any of the contents present in this tablet. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms such as skin rash, hives (painful eruptions that sting), swelling (face, lips, tongue, etc.), breathing difficulty, etc.

Aliskiren

It is not recommended to take Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet and Aliskiren (used in the treatment of high blood pressure) together as this may lead to kidney damage, high blood pressure and hyperkalemia (high potassium levels in the blood). It may also cause other undesirable effects such as irregular heartbeat, muscle paralysis, heart attack, etc. This risk is especially higher in old people and if you have diabetes and kidney problems.

Anuria

Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet is not recommended if you have anuria (a condition where the kidney is unable to produce urine), as it may cause kidney damage and water retention in your body.

Severe kidney disease

Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet is excreted through the kidneys. It is not recommended if you have severe kidney problems. This medicine accumulates in the kidneys and can lead to other undesirable effects, thus worsening your condition.

Severe liver disease

Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet is absorbed and broken down in the liver. Taking this medication while having liver problems, will further worsen your condition.

Hypotension

Hypotension is the condition where your blood pressure is lower than normal. Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet is not recommended for use if you have hypotension (low blood pressure) as it will further decrease your blood pressure which can be dangerous. Also, if you are taking diuretics (water pills or medicines that increase the amount of urine you produce) or are being treated for volume depletion (loss of fluids in the body due to severe diarrhoea/vomiting, burns, kidney problems, etc), this medicine is not suitable for you.

Hyperkalaemia

Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet may lead to hyperkalaemia (a condition where potassium levels in your blood get too high). This may cause side effects such as cardiac rhythm irregularities. It is advised to avoid potassium-rich foods (potatoes, bananas) and other medicines that may increase potassium levels (ACE inhibitors and potassium supplements) during treatment with this medicine.

Liver disease

Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet should be used with extreme caution if you have liver problems due to the increased risk of severe side effects. Your doctor may adjust the dose of this medicine or may suggest a suitable alternative as needed based on your condition. Also, your doctor may suggest tests to monitor your liver functioning if required while you are on treatment with this medicine.

Volume and electrolyte disturbances

Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet may alter the blood volume and electrolyte levels. This may cause dizziness, dry mouth, and acid-base imbalance (abnormality in the human body to balance between acid and base). This risk is especially higher if you have kidney or liver problems. Your blood pressure and electrolyte levels will be closely monitored by your doctor while you are on this medication.

Kidney diseases

Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet should be used with caution if you have kidney problems due to the increased risk of worsening your condition. Your doctor may adjust the dose of this medicine or may suggest a suitable alternative as needed based on your condition. Also, your doctor may suggest tests to monitor your kidney functioning if required while you are on treatment with this medicine.

Driving or operating machines

Missed Dose

Hyperlipidaemia

Benidin Trio 12.5 Tablet should be used with caution in hyperlipidaemia (a condition in which there are high levels of fat particles (cholesterol) in the blood) because it worsens the condition. Your doctor will closely monitor your cholesterol and triglyceride levels while you are on treatment with this medication.

How it works

Chlorthalidone increases the excretion of water and sodium from the kidneys. This helps in lowering the blood pressure and oedema (also known as fluid retention; is a build-up of fluid in your body that causes swelling). Benidipine and Telmisartan both relax the blood vessels, which improves blood flow and reduces blood pressure levels. Their combination is thus effective in treating hypertension.
