It was 3rd of May 2021 and both of my parents were advised to do a covid test and given antibiotics as they had mild fever. After many of the phone calls which I made I was able to get the test done the next day (minimum report delivery time span was 3 days). The test results came positive. During these 3-4 days after the doctor had visited the saturation was in control and there were no symptoms. The day the covid medicines started, the same afternoon my mom's saturation level started to drop. I tried proning but the level just dropped from 95 to 84. I made up my mind to get her admitted. I called 10-12 hospitals, but everywhere the answer was no bed available. After an hour of trying and with the help of my friend Dr. Swati Dasgupta, I was able to get her admitted in a private hospital on 08/05/2021. My preference was always CMRI, but couldn't get a bed there. The next day of the admission i.e. 09/05/2021, I wasn't able to contact the hospital over telephone to know about the whereabouts of maa. I was feeling helpless as I had baba too whom I had to take care of. Here I have to mention about Dr. Suman Mitra whom we had known since 2020 as he had treated my father. He who is more than a doctor for us. Just when I was about to go to the hospital, I get a call from Dr. Mitra to know about maa's condition and also get a chance to shift maa to CMRI in covid general ward. I didn't know what was going to happen thereafter but the thought that Dr. Mitra would be treating maa was a positive thing for us. From May 9th maa was under Dr. Suman Mitra's supervision. After just 2 days of her admission I come to know maa has been shifted to ICU as her oxygen level at one point dropped to 68. Here I come to know about the term "HAPPY HYPOXIA"
It happens when people are unaware they are being deprived of oxygen. As a result, the COVID-19 patient, on the outside, appears to be alright and happy. Patients infected with the virus, with extremely low blood-oxygen levels are as comfortable as one can be with an illness and talking to doctors normally (MAA TOO WAS HAVING THE SAME)
The same afternoon I get a call from the ICU department that they need my consent as maa would be either requiring BIPAP or HFNO (High-Flow Nasal Oxygen) and if that too doesn't work then she has to be put on ventilator support. Without any further thoughts I give my consent. She was talking to us normally, cracking jokes sometimes etc. It was unimaginable for us to think how can a patient be so normal when she's so critical, when her demand for oxygen is so high. After a day I come to know they'll keep her on HFNO support (WHERE SHE WAS GETTING 60 LITRES OXYGEN PER MINUTE ALONG WITH 15 LITRES EXTRA OXYGEN i.e a total of 75 litres of oxygen per minute was her requirement) and not put on ventilator support for the time being. Only prayers were what we could do at that point of time (I had to keep everything hidden from baba as his condition wasn't good too, but luckily the saturation didn't go below 90) It was a span of a week where maa was kept on HFNO support along with other steroids, remdesivir etc. She was in a very very critical condition. After another week one day I get a call that they have reduced the level from 75 litres to 15 litres and would decrease gradually based on her requirements. The litres come down from 15 to 10 and then 8. The HFNO had been removed to NRBM. Many scans had been done during that time which showed her lungs were damaged severely because of covid pneumonia. It was completely white. But to God's grace she was responding to the medicines etc. Gradually the litres came down and saturation level went up. We used to wait in anticipation for the one video call which the ICU department used to make so that we could talk and see maa for a minute or so. Some days were such when maa would just look at the phone and not say a single word. Only tears rolled down. It was 21st day of her admission, the NRBM gets replaced to normal face mask with 2-3 litres oxygen intake. After two days she got shifted to general covid ward as her health didn't deteriorate and she was maintaining the parameters. Here the physiotherapy gets started for the lungs to get cured but oxygen requirement was permanent. The face mask gets replaced to nasal cannula. Things start to get better and for the first time I feel that there's always light at the end of the tunnel. On the 28th day Dr. Suman Mitra calls and says he's discharging maa tomorrow, but maa would be requiring oxygen at home along with physiotherapy. After a month long battle for both maa and her doctor it was time for her to come back home.
About Dr. Suman Mitra whatever I say or write will not be enough. He's the doctor who will always go above and beyond and work tirelessly towards a healthy outcome.Your experience and the positivity which you gave and always give played a big role in boosting up my confidence. He's not only a good doctor but also a great human whose presence holds a positive vibe that is more powerful than any prescribed medicines. His kindness, sincere caring, and concern make everything better and is a great encouragement.
He has always been successful to keep our spirits up though he had so many other patients amidst his non stop and strenuous covid rounds. As a doctor, you’ve gone above and beyond everything. The questions which not only me, my sister, my mesho, Baba used to ask and he answered each and everything so patiently. He made us understand the complications and the situation which maa was going through so easily. He calmly explained to us in simple terms, all that we needed to know about maa's health condition. The way he motivated maa during the whole fight is beyond words. I felt so guilty at times to disturb him as he too is a human being who is dealing with something which we can't think of sitting at home.
Thank you so very much for taking care of maa and tolerating us with our silly questions.
As I always say, God could not be everywhere, so he made sure that we have doctors like you who have the gift of healing mankind. Having a doctor like you is something that nearly everyone wants, but many people never get to experience. We are lucky we have you. Baba and both me and bon and now maa too we treat you as our family. You have my maximum respect, and I am always indebted to you for giving maa a second chance to live 🙏🙏🙏
Now when maa is back home, having her regular physiotherapy and constant oxygen supply, I keep on texting him whenever the saturation levels drop or for any other queries, he's always there to reply back. Maa is better than before but the fight is still on as the lungs can only get better through physiotherapy.
Thank you and all the staffs of CMRI for the hard work, for helping our community and putting yourselves on the front line to combat COVID-19, for the difference you all make in the lives of your patients 🙏
MY WHOLE MOTTO OF WRITING THIS IS SOMETIMES IT JUST HITS YOU AND YOU LITERALLY DO JUST THINK HOW IS THIS HAPPENING TO US? IT IS ONE OF THOSE, IT'S THE KIND OF THING THAT HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER PEOPLE AND YOU HEAR ON THE NEWS AND KNOW THE STORIES BUT ACTUALLY TO BE ON THE END OF IT IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE AND YOU REALLY SEE THE DARK SIDE OF COVID-19
I don't want anyone to go through the same situation which we had to for the last one month and still is. As per maa she used to literally feel scared as everyday she could see someone or the other in the ICU was no more and the thought of not being able to see us anymore made her feel wretched.
LIFE IS VERY PRECIOUS. THERE'S NO HARM IN WEARING A MASK SO THAT YOU YOURSELF AND YOUR LOVED ONES CAN STAY SAFE. LITTLE PRECAUTIONS WHICH WE NEED TO TAKE TO HELP THE FRONTLINE WORKERS IN THEIR BATTLE TO SAVE US 🙏
P.S - AMIDST THE WHOLE FIGHT ONE THING THAT ALWAYS MADE ME FEEL POSITIVE WAS THAT I KNEW MY MAA WAS IN VERY SAFE HANDS

To share the experience with the doctor I have to start from beginning to this episode. All of sudden in the previous week of Diwali, 2019 Tuesday my wife was having some feverish feeling and abdominal discomfort. We tried some Paracetamol 650 initially and got some intermittent relief. But after couple of days it got deteriorated and severe headache plus body ache added in her discomfort. High fever was there in every 6 hours after having paracetamol also. Then Saturday we consulted our local house physician who is MD in general medicine and DM also. Correctly he did not give antibiotic immediately and asked us to do some blood test so that we can pick the root cause of the fever. Monday we got all the blood reports (including Dengue, Malaria, typhoid etc.). But fortunately and unfortunately there were no abnormality found in the reports also. In the meantime my wife was in lot pain having high fever & severe headache. Then my local doctor started a multi spectrum antibiotic for last try to treat her from home. But Tuesday situation did not change and my doctor suggested to admit her in hospital as fever & headache persisted for 7 days. Then I had to admit her in hospital but where?? That was the question. Fortunately one of my relative advised me to admit her under Dr Suman Mitra in CMRI hospital. I took her in the hospital and explained the situation & history to the doctor. Dr Suman suggested us to admit her and started the treatment with several blood test immediately. At that time diagnosis was important and we wanted to pick the root cause of the disease first. To be very honest I was bit sceptical about the doctor as Dr Suman as he looks very young and we, the ordinary people always think that good doctor have to be fifty up . Actually we were much tensed as we could not pick the root cause for last 7 days. At the very first sitting I heard the name of Scrub Typhus as doctor was suspecting that also. I heard the name for the first time. On the next day morning all report came up and my wife was diagnosed with Scrub Typhus as result came up reactive. After staying 4 days in hospital and getting treated properly by Dr Suman my wife is now without fever in home. This disease could be fatal if it is not diagnosed early. From doctor I also came to know detection of this disease is difficult but treatment of it comparatively easier. Another difficult part is test of Scrub Typhus is not done everywhere and it is still not very common. But as it is spreading currently in the cities also lab test of it should be done in every diagnostic centre. At the end I would like to thank Dr Suman for his prompt and correct approach to detect the disease and treating her. As I said earlier Scrub Typhus can be dangerous if it is not detected early. At the same time Dr Suman is very approachable and understands the patient relatives condition. This is very uncommon especially in Kolkata where most of the big doctor has God like impression in front of patient relative and hardly approachable. I would like to keep him always in my contact details for any future needs if any.
Dr Suman Mitra , a very responsive and experienced doctor in treating patient with sensitivity and understanding. Have been in touch with the Doctor thru Mobile WhatsApp and communicated with him almost 24 hrs a day .This resulted in a process of giving the doctor a continuous update on the patients condition and facilitated the doctor to suitably modify /substitute medicines depending on the situation.
I found that the process was very relevant and helpful in regard to my wife's treatment in that situation and time .
In addition to above I found that Doctor Suman Mitra spending a considerable amount of his precious time in going thru the past records of the patient and noting down the relevant details as required . I feel that this meticulous process is very important for a new patient so that the treatment starts at the appropriate stage considering the patient's past history of medications and treatment.
The Doctor Mitra also spent a considerable time talking directly to the patient on his every visit /consultation. This process helps in instilling a sense of confidence to the patient that her problems are being addressed.
He looks at the treatment in totality and not only focusing on the immediate requirement .This is important since in medical science one problem is linked with the other .
Lastly very very cost effective fees structure including home visits as compared to the charges prevailing in the locality and the clinics .
Experienced him as a 24/7 doctors endowed with full energy , knowledge, empathy and commitment for the patient .
I wish that more and more of patients to know about him and experience the benefit of his treatment.

It was 26th May, 2021, I was feeling feverish and sore throat. I doubted and hence went for COVID test. It was positive with CT value 17. My family members suggested for immediate hospitalization. I immediately approached Fortis Hospitals Anandapur Emergency on 28th May 2021 and I had to wait for 4 hours in emergency for getting admitted. I thought now I will get better as I was assured that I have been admitted under COVID team of 8 expert doctors. My first night experience was too bad, when I had fever of 102, I called for help but no sister came, at last one came and on asking for medicine told me to take whatever medicine I had brought from home. Everyday, 1 new doctor came and visited with new advices. My fever was not coming down for last 9 days. Ultimately one doctor prescribed for Remdisivir which was given for 5 days. At last my fever went down and I was released the next day on 8th June, 2021. I was happy to come back home, but at that time I did not know my fate. At night of 8th, fever came again along with bleeding from my nose. I was totally depressed and demoralized. Then through one my friend/husband's colleague, I came to know about my saviour Dr. Suman Mitra. I immediately booked teleconsultation the next day. The first impression I had about him is his self confidence and the way he boosted my morale. He said there is no need to worry about anything, be positive and believe in yourself. You will get well soon, just take the medicines I am prescribing. It was a real magic. Where a team of 8 expert doctors could not able to do, Dr. Suman Mitra, my saviour, came in my life and cured me fully within 5 days. This is what Dr. Suman Mitra is, a God for me. The best part is that he is a great human being. During the 5 days of his treatment, he used to either call me or msged me asking for my health. His style of treatment is really unique as all throughout he kept on giving me confidence and always kept on motivating me throughout. Now, whenever I feel sick, due to anything, the first doctor that comes to my mind is none other that my saviour Dr. Suman Mitra

I was tested positive for Covid-19 on 02.04.2021. After staying in home quarantine for 5 days my fever continued and oxygen saturation level started falling. I was admitted in CMRI, Kolkata under Dr. Suman Mitra on 08.04.2021. Immediate HRCT scan and other tests conducted at CMRI was helpful in diagnosing Covid Pneumonia and medication was started on the same night. I was shifted to ICU for 6 days for better monitoring and was rescued with life saving drugs. Finally I became Covid negative on 21.04.2021 and was released from hospital on 23.04.2021.
I feel the 2nd wave of Covid 19 is somewhat different from the 1st one and is creating panic in some cases. What we need to do is to keep confidence on yourself and your Doctor and medical team supervising you. Moral boosting and positive assurance in the critical hours is the most important thing. Apart from his expertise as medical professional, Dr. Suman Mitra was excellent in this area, I must say. He never missed a single day during my whole tenure at CMRI and gave confidence and strength to fight back during his visits. He also gave regular feedback to my friends and family and medical conditions were discussed in detail by my Doctor relatives at ease. That was a much relief for my family and friends that they were constantly updated.
I have deep gratitude towards entire CMRI nursing team and should appreciate them the way they are handling Covid-19 positive patients in this critical time. Prone position is one of the important postures for Covid-19 patients to increase oxygen saturation level. CMRI nursing team helped me a lot in doing that and constantly supervised whether patients are following respiratory practices (Spirometry) and posturing as per their capability.
Now, I am at home and doing better. I am following the guidelines and breathing exercises for improving my SpO2 level as suggested by Dr. Suman Mitra. Post discharge, I am also giving him regular feedbacks on my health condition and getting suggestions from him too. This gives me immense pleasure as a patient and I am hopeful to regain my full strength within a couple of weeks.
Thank you Doctor for your right diagnosis and timely treatment, help, guidance and for every assistance in this critical hour of my life.

My father was admitted under doctor Suman Mitra in CMRI ER on 14th Feb 2021.
We originally belong to Jamshedpur and we had consulted multiple doctors before here, but the situation just got worsened. We got his reference from a close friend and coming to CMRI that day has been the best impromptu decision of my life, yet.
My father was in a very critical position when we got him here, but Suman sir never lost hope. He made us aware of the complications, but the manner he counseled my father, mother and me is something I can't put in words. He was our only hope in what I could call probably the most taxing period of my life. He kept us informed about everything, and honestly, when you see a private personnel caring so much for you, it instills a sense of belief that everything is going to be alright.
He is excellent in his field, my father is living testimony for it.
My mother and I will always be indebted to you, for taking such good care of my father and for boosting his confidence all the time.
I can never forget the happy face Suman sir had when he saw my father when we went to meet him for a followup last week. That just reflects how deeply he cares for his patients.
A very very big Thank you, and lots of wishes to you, sir. Although, a thank you cannot reflect my gratitude towards you.

Last month my mother was ailing with sudden shortness of breath. My doctor friend suggested Dr Mitra name and I immediately admitted my mother under his care. My mother was really struggling by the time we reached nursing home. Dr Mitra was present and promptly started his diagnosis. He guided and supervised his team as late as 4 am in the morning when the patient’s condition became relatively stable. I was much relieved to see his dedication and determination.
During the treatment I noticed that he takes great care in studying patient past medical history, spends a lot of time interacting with the patient and his family. I found his way of treatment very through and appropriate. Being patient's family member, I was always aware of condition of the patient and what is the future course of action he plans to take. He also welcomed any parallel opinions we sought from other doctors. My mother is an oncology patient, and Dr Mitra even helped us prepare a note for her Radiation Oncology doctor.
Even after patient’s discharge, Dr Mitra is 24x7 available. Whenever require I can call or text him and he usually responds promptly. I would highly recommend him.
Visited For Fever Treatment
I first went to Dr. Suman Mitra on the 11th of March 2017. I was suffering from high fever since two-three weeks. The doctor, was intrigued to know about my medical history so that he could survey my problem and treat me properly which according to me is a positive sign about the doctor. The doctor not only prescribed medicines but also adviced how home remedies and proper diet could help me heal faster. From that particular day I stopped having feverand slowly started to feel better.
My next visit to the doctor was on the 16th of March because I had tremendous pain in the joints and bones due to weakness. I am a type of person who starts panicking and stressing easily. When I told this to the doctor he suggested not to take tension at all and motivated me to get recoverd perfectly. The doctor's constant attempt to understand my problems and make an effort to cure me completely is what I appreciate the most. Another impressive trait of the doctor was that he adhered to his ethics very well. Overall I genuinely feel that when one goes to Dr. Suman Mitra with a problem he would definitely be able to cure it...
"Thank you sooo much Sir for helping me out. I really appreciate your effort."

I consulted Dr. Mitra only after I got his information in PRACTO. And I must say that I am very satisfied with his management skill. As I can see in other reviews that everybody has discussed in detail about there disease, I will also take some time to compose this review as I was suffering from Tonsillitis for quite some time. Earlier I thought its just a matter of 3-4 & eventually I will recover of my own. But when my swollen tonsils remain for a week, I decided to consult a doctor. As I am new to the city, I was unaware who to consult. But after visiting the site I got some good reviews about Dr. Mitra and decided to visit him
When I visited Dr. Mitra, I came to know that he is very friendly, interactive and listen to your problems patiently before making any comments. He will not only prescribed you medicines but will also tell it's side effects, it's time of intake and will properly inform you how long it will take to recover and how the medication will proceed.
As a layman, he made me aware of my disease and informed how to cure it. I am very happy that I visited a doctor who treated his patients as a human being and not as a typical doctor.

It is truly difficult to start with, as the contribution of Dr. Mitra in my journey of overcoming the deadliest malediction of modern history. I had fever persisted for five days with body pain and weakness and had consulted him. With his advise, I tested myself for SARS COV-2 and was found positive, precisely the shock of my life. As I didn't have breathing difficulties, Dr. Mitra advised me for home isolation following all extant government guidelines. It was the most difficult journey for me due to multifarious reasons starting from the fear of having worsening health issues to the fear of getting recovered. I could sail through the journey only because of the 'philosopher doctor' Dr. Mitra with his methodical treatment, immense self confidence and unparalleled empathy for his patients. His words acted as miracle for me 'be at my meds and have faith in me'. I was cured in two weeks time under strict supervision of Dr. Mitra and am doing absolutely fine within 3 weeks of detecting positive. Though it is a long review but would like to conclude saying that we can battle out this virus at ease if we have combatants like Dr. Mitra to protect us. I am ever grateful to him to guide me through the unexpected and difficult journey.
