My wife was her patient during her first pregnancy in 2013. We had recently returned from US (around 28 weeks of her pregnancy) and after getting good feedback about Dr. Chakraborty, chose her as our doctor. She has a very pleasant appearance and behaves very well with her patients. Although her clinic (ground floor of her resident in Salt Lake) may not be the be a very polished one (neither were her staffs) but because of her caring nature we were initially pretty satisfied. Now my wife was diabetic and and had some hypertension as well and we were aware (since our time in US) that her pregnancy is a high risk one but there is nothing to worry if everything is kept under control.She was also regularly in touch with a reputed diabetic specialist (recommended by Dr. Chakraborty only) and her sugar level was kept in control through daily insulin doses. There were no other complications and regular USG reports were also fine. Usually for pregnancies with diabetes, the baby is delivered early. However Dr. Chakroborty said that she would wait till 37 weeks and also for the baby's weight to get over 2.5 kgs. On the 37th week of her pregnancy my wife complained about lack of baby movement for the first time. We rushed her to Dr. Chakraborty and she made us do two USGs at two different places. Both the USGs did not find any major problems although my wife was still not feeling any baby movement. Dr. Chakraborty got her admitted to one of the most reputed hospital in Kolkata in the late afternoon for observation and baby monitoring. However she did not visit her a single time that night and next morning we were told that there were no heart beats and our little angel was still-born. We were all completely shattered. My wife's agony did not end there. In spite of this unbearable shock she had to suffer immensely for hours as Dr. Chakraborty tried to deliver our still-born son two days later. He was a respectable 2.8 Kgs at delivery. The post-delivery stitches were not done properly and couple of weeks later she developed bleeding and had to be re-operated to rectify all the previous stitches done by Dr. Chakraborty.This time her husband (another reputed surgeon) operated on her. Post this tragedy we consulted other gynecologists and all of them said that an experienced and reputed doctor like Dr. Ratnabali should have been much more pro-active and operated on her on that very same day of admission and that might have saved our dear son's life.
I have no intention to malign Dr. Ratnabali Chakraborty's image and I think she herself was shocked and realized that she should have been much more decisive. However I believe that the other patients have the right to know our experience with her and thats why I am posting over here in Practo (and not in social media).
Since then we have been blessed with a little girl who have filled all our lives with unlimited love. This time we stuck to a local experienced doctor who was extremely professional and decisive. He operated on my wife in the 36th week itself and took no chances. My daughter is now a 9 month old healthy bundle of love and joy but the pain of losing our first child is something that has scarred our lives forever.
