Dr. Amitabha Ghosh

My heartfelt thanks and deepest gratitude to you, Sir, for being a constant source of strength throughout my entire journey of gallstones surgery. From the very first conversation, your warmth and kindness melted away all my fear and anxiety. What felt like one of the most frightening phases of my life slowly turned into a journey filled with reassurance and hope, simply because of him.

I first met him at Manipal Hospital, Dhakuria, when I was diagnosed with multiple gallbladder stones. Hearing the diagnosis was overwhelming, but he calmly explained everything and advised an MRCP to check if stones were stuck in the bile duct. I underwent the test the very next day. The 24-hour wait for the results was filled with nervousness and uncertainty. When we informed him that the MRCP was done, him personally called my husband back within a few hours to check on me. That gesture itself meant so much. Although the news of multiple stones stuck in the bile duct was not easy to hear, he had reassured us with such confidence and compassion that our fears slowly faded.

A few days later, when we met him again to discuss the next steps, he patiently reviewed every report and guided us to the right gastroenterologist for the ERCP procedure. I underwent ERCP on 31st January 2026 and it was successful done without any problem. Then on 13th February, I was admitted for my laparoscopic surgery. That morning, Dr.Amitabha Ghosh came to see me and gently told me not to worry — that he would see me again in the OT. Naturally, I was extremely nervous, but the moment I saw him before the surgery, I felt a wave of relief. His thoughtful gesture of playing my favourite singer’s playlist in the OT before the surgery meant so much to me - It truly reflected his kindness and compassion. Thank you so much, Sir for that beautiful gesture which I will never forget.

That very evening, he came to check on me and encouraged me to walk and he had also reassured my husband that I was completely fine. During my hospital stay, he made multiple visits just to ensure everything was progressing well. Even after I returned home, he personally called my husband the next day and on subsequent days to check on my recovery. Such care and dedication are rare and priceless.

Every visit to the hospital felt welcoming and comforting rather than stressful. His positive words — always reminding me to stay happy — truly accelerated my healing. I always felt a positive energy whenever I spoke to him. Today, on the 10th day after my surgery, I am completely fine and back to my normal routine, though I still have my final stent removal procedure in a couple of weeks. Dr. Amitabha Ghosh is not just a doctor *** * ******** **** He made the most complicated procedure sound so simple. I did thorough research on port endometriosis and came to know that it is a rare condition. Yet this amazing doctor made it sound like it was his everyday job. Where empathy meets precision!

I met Dr. Amitabha Ghosh with reference from an office colleague and a very close friend. Before meeting Dr. Ghosh I was skeptical about doing any procedure at AMRI Dhakuria (Now Manipal Dhakuria) because of my past experience. But it took me only one meeting to build that confidence in him. His words and confidence acted like magic on me. He said, “you don worry, I ll take care of you, that’s my job”. It was a calming assurance from a doctor of his stature. He dint make me fear, no anxiety, no urgency, nothing. My PAC was done the same day as my tests results were ready. And I came home peacefully completing all formalities in one day. And for people who work in corporates, will understand, you understand the intent and integrity of a person when he/she speaks highly of his colleague. Dr. Ghosh did speak very highly about my PAC doctor as well and I indeed liked her too.

But as many of you might be wondering, a lot of promises do come from docs before a procedure is done. My laparoscopic gallbladder surgery was done on 9th June 2025. I cud go to washroom on my own from 9th June night itself at hospital. Doctor visited multiple times and ensured that I was given the required water from time to time as I was feeling too thirsty. On 10th, he visited again in the morning, chatted up with me and made me walk in corridor as well as stairs to understand my ease. He even discussed my meds with me and he listened (not just heard) to me when I mentioned I dint want a particular brand of medication and wanted an alternative if possible. I got released and came home peacefully on 10th June.

But my surprise dint end here. I woke up the next day ( 11th June) with a call from Dr. Ghosh. He called himself and not through any assistant or hospital. He called to find out if I was ok and if I had passed stool and having meds etc and if I needed any help. I was pleasantly surprised. In my 44 years of life and numerous hospital visits for my parents, relatives and myself, I had never ever experienced this. This personal touch made me realise once again that I made the right decision by going ahead with Dr. Amitabha Ghosh. *** **** ** ** * ***** *******, he is very very empathetic and he touches every life he comes across positively. I m blessed that I trusted him and let him operate on me.

In the next 14 days of my journey, before I met him again, I have reached out to him multiple times with my queries on various things (even silly ones) and he has always responded. **** **** * **** ***** * *** ******* ** ***** I ll visit him without without a single moment of doubt.

Ever since I was diagnosed with multiple stones in gallbladder, we were in search of a good surgeon who can relieve us from our concerns over how to go about the cholelithiasis, as they call in medical terminology, as I have other comorbidities. Like always, we consulted our family physician who referred us to Dr. Amitabha Ghosh in AMRI, Dhakuria seconded by my cardiologist. Though we haven't met him before, since he was associated with AMRI, it gave us a bit of a relief as our previous experiences with them were good. We met him on 3rd June. As we entered his cabin and came face to face with his pleasant personality, a sense of comfort came over us. He interacted with us explaining the procedure in a calm and easy to understand manner. Hence, we decided to move forward with the surgery through him only. Since we had results of most of the prerequisite tests for the surgery he asked only to get the serology test done and a PAC with Dr Samar Chakravarthy. Dr Chakravarthy was very friendly and communicated with us nicely to understand my medical history, habits and routine. He took into consideration my diabetes, hypertension and the implanted ICD to devise a plan to make me fit for general anesthesia. On 20th June, through a laproscopic surgery the stones and the gallbladder were extracted. I was in the ICU for a day and the next day I was discharged. I recall Dr Ghosh's assurances and support throughout the procedure. He gave his cell number and told us to call him whenever the need arises irrespective of the hour. These are the small things a patient prefers over and above the medical support. Those words of him really gave us confidence. Post discharge he called every day to take stock of my condition and on the 8th day we met him again to remove the stitches. Today on the 11th day post operation I am more into my normal diets and routine except for restricted movements and refraining from bending. Before signing off, I would like to highlight a few qualities of Dr Ghosh which I think ranks at a high level equal to his professional expertise.

A doctor is expected to have the right knowledge and requisite skillsets , but mastering soft skills simultaneously is also an art. Dr. Amitabha Ghosh is a great combination of both.

After being referred by our dear friend about a month back, we visited Dr. Amitabha Ghosh inorder to consult and treat my daughter (aged 15 years) for multiple Gall Stones. On our very first visit we realised how friendly, approachable and a genuinely kindhearted person was Dr. Amitabha Ghosh. These are qualities which have become so rare today and hence experiencing such characteristic traits, that too from a busy Doctor who is also a Surgeon was indeed overwhelming and gratifying. He is a patient centric doctor.

At the end of the first consultation, Dr. Ghosh advised that sooner or later the way out to treat gall stone is a laparoscopic surgery also known as 'laparoscopic cholecystectomy'. Since my child was extremely scared after she learnt surgery is the only way out, Dr. Ghosh proactively eased out her fear and explained the entire process and made it look so simple. He took a pen and paper and explained us how the organs in the stomach look like, how the Gall bladder functions and why the surgery was needed.

Dr. Ghosh is not only compassionate but also understands the child psychology well which helped my daughter to win over the surgery with much ease and confidence. At the same time, he uses his wit and never gives any kind of tension or fear. Since our first visit and till today when we took our child for the first checkup post-surgery (after a week), Dr. Ghosh used to call me on his own inspite of his busy schedule to find out how my daughter has been doing and how she is recovering. He also spoke to our daughter to find out about her well-being and if she has any concern. Dr. Ghosh always responded to our phone calls or messages irrespective of his hectic schedule which brings great relief and gives us a feeling that we can always reach out to him in case we need his help or advise. Honestly, these gestures are rarely found today and that too from busy Doctors.

The surgery was flawless as Dr. Ghosh has a safe pair of hands, and it all went as planned on 30th Aug. On the day of discharge - 31st Aug, to our surprise Dr. Amitabha Ghosh presented my daughter with a big Cadbury chocolate Silk Bar when he came to visit her in the afternoon for a checkup and it made my daughter and us feel so touched. What a lovely gesture!

Post-surgery too, Dr. Ghosh stayed connected and always rendered help and assistance to any query we had, any concern that we raised happily and patiently as he spoke to us on the very first day.

In one line, we can proudly say that we experienced God through Dr. Amitabha Ghosh as he was His (God Almighty’s) own representative. We wish the society has more such Doctors and Humans like that of Dr. Ghosh.

After a frustrating one and half month search through Kolkata's medical landscape for the right surgeon to repair my inguinal hernia, I finally found the doctor I had been desperately seeking—Dr. Amitabha Ghosh.

My previous experiences had been deeply disappointing. The first surgeon was dismissive, unilaterally deciding on robotic surgery without my consent. The second surgeon from MR Bangur Super Specialty Hospital (who also practices at RSV and Belle Vue) left me confused and anxious—unable to diagnose my condition clearly, he insisted I repeat all scans and consult a leading urologist(which I did), ultimately recommending open surgery at a private facility while shockingly requesting payment in black money despite my Mediclaim coverage.
