A 5-year medical degree [MBBS] that is recognized by the General Medical Council and a 2-year foundation course of general training are the basic requirements for an individual to be a doctor. However, following are the specialties or extra qualifications required to be a Neurosurgeon:
Individuals who are suffering from any of the following diseases or medical conditions should consult a Neurosurgeon or Neurologist.
Apart from the above medical conditions, there are more than over 300 diseases for which an individual should consult a Neurosurgeon.
Both Neurosurgeons and Neurologists are medical doctors who are specialized and well trained in Neurology and treat patients who are suffering from nervous system disorders. However, Neurosurgeons perform surgery and Neurologists use therapeutic ways [medications] to treat and cure a disease condition.
A Neurosurgeon is trained for operating on the brain and other organs included in the nervous system. Therefore, a Neurosurgeon can operate on a brain tumor and remove it partially or completely. The procedure opted depends on the area of the brain affected and the severity of the condition.
A seizure is a central nervous system disorder that causes abnormal brain activity and leads to unusual behavior, loss of awareness, and loss of sensations. Any type of seizure can be diagnosed and treated by Neurologists. However, if a surgery is required to treat and cure seizures, then Neurosurgeon can perform it.
