1. What is laryngoscopy?
Laryngoscopy is the process of using a device to look into the insides of your larynx or throat.
2. When is laryngoscopy needed?
Laryngoscopy is necessary to find out: if you have something stuck in your larynx or throat; it is also done to take tissue samples to be used later, if you are having a breathing issue; to remove a growth; and to check if there are any cancerous cells within the voice box.
3. Can I eat or drink water before laryngoscopy?
The doctor will prescribe whether you should drink water or not before a laryngoscopy. If they do so, you should not drink or eat anything for an eight-hour period prior to the test.
4. How do I prepare for laryngoscopy?
You must be ready for an x-ray and also stop taking any particular medication as told by the doctor for a week or so and stop drinking water eight hours prior to the test.
5. Is there any side effect of laryngoscopy?
There are a few side effects of laryngoscopy which include: gagging/vomiting; swelling of the throat; bleeding; hoarseness and infection. Also, if you are given an anesthetic, you are likely to feel sleep afterwards.
