1. What is an epidural?
An epidural is a type of anaesthesia. The injection is given in the back to stop or minimise the pain in that part of the body.
2. When should I need to go for the epidural?
Epidural anaesthesia is given in different conditions:
(1) If you want painless childbirth or caesarean delivery
(2) During some surgeries
(2) Post-surgery in some cases
3. What are the side effects of epidural?
Epidurals are safe, but there are some side effects, such as
(1) low blood pressure causing light-headedness and nausea
(2) loss of bladder control
(3) itching
4. Does an epidural totally numb labor pains?
An epidural does not diminish labour pain but reduces it to a greater extent. It enables you to move around, and you can sense the childbirth.
5. What are the risks associated with an epidural?
There are some risks associated with an epidural as well. It may cause slow or difficult breathing, drowsiness, permanent nerve damage, fits (convulsions), or death in rare cases.
