Many children suffer from repeated cough and cold, especially after starting school.

A normal child may get:

  • 6–8 viral infections per year
  • More infections during monsoon and winter
  • Frequent symptoms after school exposure

This does not always mean low immunity.

Common reasons include:

  • Viral infections
  • Allergies
  • Adenoid enlargement
  • Exposure to smoke
  • Poor hand hygiene

Parents should consult a pediatrician if:

  • Cough persists beyond 2–3 weeks
  • Child develops wheezing
  • Weight gain is poor
  • Fever is recurrent
  • Child snores heavily at night

Simple preventive measures:

  • Proper sleep
  • Hand washing
  • Healthy diet
  • Avoid unnecessary antibiotics
  • Timely vaccination

Building immunity takes time. Not every cough requires strong medicines.
