Vaccination- necessary or unnecessary big question for the new parents

"The Greeks had two gods of health : Aesculapius and Hygenia, thearpy and prevention, respectively. Medicine in the 21st century retains those concepts, and vaccination is a powerful means of prevention. What follows is the information on the vaccines that, together with sanitation, make mordern society possible, and if wisely used, will continue to bestow on humankind the gift of prevention, which according to the proverb is worth far more than cure"

Todays world you may come across many pediatricians advising to get vaccinated for your child. Many are thinking is it necessary? Are the doctors making profit out of vaccination advice? Why then in government institutions not providing all vaccine for free if its a necessary preventive medicine? I think most of you have heard about poliomyelitis, a disease caused by virus and taken lot of lifes not only in india but worldwide but do we see any cases of polio now? You might have seen or heard lot of people in olden days were affected by Tuberculosis do we see the same number now? Have you seen any diphtheria or tetanus cases recently? May be hardly 1 or 2 in a year.

How we achieved this ? Yes we fought with these deadly disease and preventing them to come in future. We want our kids not to suffer from any of the deadly disease. We did this by vaccination. Vaccination is an important step in everyone's life. By vaccinating we can prevent our children from lot diseases.

BCG we give to every child at the time birth to prevent the child from tuberculosis, Oral polio or injection polio we give them to prevent from the deadly disease polio, hepatitis B vaccine to prevent from hepatitis B viral infection. Similarly a lot of vaccine pediatricians are advising for their patients for the betterment of their patients.

Coming to the question why some vaccine which are costly and why government is not providing at free of cost, the reason is for inventing a new vaccine requires a lot of funding and the funding Institute will have the patent rights so they will fix the price according to international standards. When a doctor know some vaccine can help the newer generation they will advice for there patients as the number increses then the price comes down slowly. But the government to start supply these vaccine needs a lot of time as they form seperate governoring bodies and advisory commitees.

For example because of rotavirus infection there was lot of children died due to diarrhea, but the vaccination helped in preventing this viral diarrhea in children subsequently reduced the death rates.intially the vaccine rate was also high around 2000 rs but now we get the vaccine around 700 rs in future the price may go still low. The government didnt had rotavirus vaccine in its vaccination schedule but now the government schedule also contains rotavirus vaccine similarly pnemococal, influenza, hepatitis A etc.So i think by this post you can decide whether vaccine is necessary or unnecessary for your child.Gift a vaccine for your child for His/her birthday rather than chocolates or dress because your child needs good health than any other things.
