Ligation of Tubes is a surgical procedure that prevents pregnancy.
This is the permanent method of female sterilization.
Tubal refers to the fallopian tubes. Each month, an ovum is released from any of the ovaries which then travels through the fallopian tube to the uterus.
Ligation stands for tieing. This prevents an ovum and sperm from getting connected to prevent pregnancy.
In tubal ligation, both fallopian tubes are blocked or cut. It is done in the hospital.
This surgery is usually done under general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia.
The procedure doesn't affect the menstrual cycle. Tubal ligation can be done at any time, including after childbirth or in combination with another abdominal surgery, such as a C-section.
