The brush shouldn't be too big , because a big brush will not reach remote areas of the mouth especially posterior teeth. 

The handle should be comfortable to hold. Most cases straight handle is good.

A very hard brush will wear off the enamel and a very soft one may not remove plaque well. Generally a brush with medium bristles does well. In case of sensitive teeth dentist will recommend soft brush.
