Dentures are artificial/ prosthetic teeth which is used to replace the missing teeth. These help a person in chewing food efficiently as well as fulfils the necessary aesthetic needs.
However, these dentures have to be taken care of in the same way, if not more than the natural teeth. Most patients forget this necessary requirement and in turn causes more harm than than the usage of it.
A few tips to take care of dentures which should be followed
1) Remove and rinse dentures after every meal : Rinsing dentures after meal is required to remove food particles stuck between denture and gums. These particles if not removed may cause gum irritation and infection.
2) Clean Dentures daily : Dentures should be cleaned with a toothbrush and toothpaste daily in the same way teeth is cleaned to ensure no plaque or debris gets deposited.3) Remove your dentures every night :Every night remove dentures and keep them immersed in water covered with a lid. Use normal water. Warm water or cold water should not be used, as it might cause dental warpage.
4) Handle dentures with care : Dentures should be handled with care. Accidental dropping these on the floor might cause breakage.
5) Schedule regular checkups : Dentures often get loose with time which often causes denture induced ulcers which should not be ignored.
