Sickle cell anemia (SCA) is genetic disease due to abnormal hemoglobin S.

Care to be taken while dental treatment:

1. Schedule appointment in morning hours with short duration

2. Preferably preventive dentistry followed

3. Use paracetamol for dental pain

4. During dental treatment and surgery sufficient oxygenation and body temperature should be maintained

5. Orthodontic or braces treatment for the SCA patient is strictly elective

6. SCA patients have chances of oral infection

7. Include fluoride therapy and routine dental recall visits into the preventive dental treatment
