May 31st is celebrated as NO TOBACCO DAY. With a lot of campaigns and promotions going on the World Health Organization has proposed the subject of this year's World No Tobacco Day as "Tobacco: A Threat to Our Environment." The campaign's ultimate goal is to create public awareness about the harmful environmental effects of tobacco cultivation, production, distribution, and waste.
Tobacco consumption causes numerous health problems. Tobacco is indeed a serial killer because research shows that it kills nearly8 million people each year and damages our surroundings, which are vital for our health and well-being. Tobacco hurts the environment through cultivation, manufacture, distribution, use, and post-consumer waste. It damages our forests, pollutes our drinking water, and pollutes our air, and the negative consequences are growing, putting unnecessary strain on our planet's already existing finite resources and delicate ecosystems. The campaign also works as a rallying call, motivating stakeholders involved, especially younger generation, to push for appropriate regulation that keeps the tobacco industry liable and avoid tobacco-related environmental harms. On the whole, Tobacco is not only harmful to those who consume it but also to the environment. Let’s pledge and strongly say NO TO TOBACCO.
