Pneumonia is an infection that inflames the air sacs (alveoli) in one or both lungs. When inflamed, these air sacs may fill with fluid or pus, making it difficult to breathe.

It can range from a mild illness (sometimes called "walking pneumonia") to a life-threatening condition.
