Oxford English dictionary defines Hygiene – cleanliness as a means to prevent disease. And so is ‘Cleaning’ the ‘mind’ which is an active “will full” process to prevent illness and to promote positive mental health.
Mind is the seat of brain functions and hence it is of prime importance to ‘clean’ the mind. The ability of the Brain to be attentive, observant, to retain the information from senses and executive into action depends very much on the stability in the mind. Increased awareness of mental processes has positive influence on emotional behavior and mental health.
There are methods to achieve to good emotional health .The following are some of them:
“Humor” is the ability to express thoughts and feeling though comedy without causing discomfort to self or others.
“Sublimation” is process to delay impulses, and to them express in a socially acceptable form
“Suppression” of conflicts in the mind, which are deliberately cut off, but not avoided. Discomfort is acknowledged and minimized.
“Anticipation” is realistically planning for any future discomfort.
“Flexibility” not “Rigidity” in thinking, ability to take other’s perspectives and acceptance of the reality. To allot time for leisure, and being “social”. To keep your thinking “ young” by ‘curiosity’,’ creative activities’ and ‘learning new skills’. Motivate yourself with positive attitude, keeping hope, nurture your strengths and strive to improve on your weaknesses with perseverance.
