Limit the rest: Too much rest is not good for muscles & it also affects the joint pain. Starting with an exercise program & stick with it. In case you are unsure about the type of exercise, consult your doctor or the physiotherapist.
Start Exercising: Should start with cardio exercises, like walking, swimming, water aerobics, static cycling. These exercises help with strengthening of knee muscles.
Prevent Fall: Whenever there is a knee pain, risk of fall is on a higher side. This can further damage the knee. Risk of fall can be reduced by keeping the home well lit, using handrails on staircases, and using a sturdy ladder or foot stool if you need to reach something from a high shelf.
Use “RICE”: Rest, ice, compression, and elevation (RICE) is good for knee pain caused by a minor injury or an arthritis flare.
Keep a check on the weight: Weight reduction helps with reduction of excessive load on the knees. Even a little bit of weight loss helps with knee discomfort.
Can use a walking aid: Should use a crutch or cane to take the stress off the knee. Knee splints & brace can also help.
Take care of the shoes: For knee pain or discomfort, specialized insoles can be put in closed shoes that helps with knee pain as well as alignment correction. Must talk to your doctor or physical therapist regarding the same.
Be easy on joint (s): Avoid high-impact exercises like running, kick boxing & jumping. Also avoid squats, lunges as these exercises can worsen pain.
