Hysteroscopy is a technique to examine the inside of the uterus (the womb) and diagnose or treat various uterine problems. It involves the insertion of a thin, lighted telescope-like instrument called a hysteroscope through the vagina  into the womb.

Who needs Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy  is most commonly used to look for the cause of abnormal uterine bleeding. It is also used to investigate cause of  recurrent miscarriages, infertility, or other uterine abnormalities.

How is Hysteroscopy performed

Hysteroscopy is usually performed as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia or sedation, meaning most patients can go home the same day.

Preparation: The patient may be given a sedative or local anesthesia to ease discomfort. General anesthesia might be used in some cases. Insertion: The hysteroscope is gently inserted through the vagina and cervix into the uterus. Examination: The doctor examines the uterine lining and, if necessary, takes biopsies or removes abnormal tissue. Completion: The hysteroscope is withdrawn, and the patient is monitored for a short period before being allowed to go home.

What is the benefit of Hysteroscopy

The hysteroscope allows the healthcare provider to visually inspect the uterine cavity, identify abnormalities such as polyps, fibroids, adhesions (scar tissue), or uterine septum (a partition within the uterus),  which can be removed simultaneously also.

Why Hysteroscopy is Preferred :

Hysteroscopy is minimally invasive day care procedure which  results in shorter recovery times, lesser pain and complete cure. The risk of complications compared to traditional open surgery is very low. Hysteroscopy is a valuable tool for accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment of various uterine conditions while minimizing patient discomfort and recovery time. Hysteroscopy is a versatile procedure with a wide range of indications, both diagnostic and therapeutic. It provides a direct view of the uterine cavity, allowing for precise diagnosis and treatment of various conditions. If you have symptoms or conditions that may benefit from hysteroscopy, consult with your healthcare provider to discuss the best approach for your situation.
