One of the most common concerns in pediatric OPD is “Doctor, my child does not eat properly.”

In many cases, the child is actually growing normally.

Children between 2–6 years commonly become picky eaters because growth rate slows compared to infancy. Appetite naturally fluctuates.

Avoid:

  • Force feeding  
  • Mobile phone feeding habits  
  • Constant snacking/junk food  
  • Comparing with other children  

Helpful tips:

  • Fixed meal timings  
  • Family meals together  
  • Small frequent nutritious meals  
  • Milk in moderation only  
  • Encourage outdoor activity  

A growth chart assessment is more important than comparing appetite with another child.

Consult your pediatrician if there is:

  • Weight loss  
  • Persistent vomiting  
  • Chronic diarrhea  
  • Fatigue  
  • Significant growth delay
