When you sleep, please put on the eye shield given to you for 10 days so that you do not injure your operated eye
Use all the drops given to you and keep all your eye exam appointments even if you feel your eye is fine
For mild pain you may take a paracetamol tablet. If you have unbearable pain, call your eye doctor immediately
Initially you vision may be blurred or distorted. Your eye may become red or bloodshot or there may be some bruising around it. This should fade away in a few days. Be careful not to fall or bump into objects if your vision is not clear
Wear the eye shield as advised
DON'TS
Do not rub your eyes or touch it with a handkerchief. Some eye irritation and discharge after surgery is common. Clean your eye 2 times a day or as instructed by your doctor.
Do not carry heavy loads like a large grocery bag or children for 4-6 weeks
Do not perform strenuous exercises for 4-6 weeks
Do not bend over for extended periods of time
Do not engage in contact sports for a few weeks. Be careful while playing with children. Reduce your risk of getting knocked in the eye
Do not swim or use a hot tub or spa for 4 weeks. Prevent the wound in the eye from getting contaminated.
Do not use any eye cosmetics for at least 4 weeks
Do not drive until you are confident that your vision is clear
Do not cook or go near the stove till your doctor permits
Do not strain at stools. Avoid constipation by requesting a mild laxative
Do not smoke or consume alcohol
Contact your doctor if you have unbearable pain, worsening vision, excessive discharge or sudden onset of flashes or floaters
It is safe to
Shave or bathe from the neck down the day after surgery. Use a clean wet towel to wipe your face. Do not let water splash into the operated eye
Read, watch TV and use the computer within a few hours
Perform gentle exercises and normal household activities
Consume your usual diet
Wear sunglasses when you are outdoors. Protect your eye from dust, soap water and wind even when indoors.
