What is Courage? I wonder

Is it something you are born with?

Is it something you are just lucky to have?

Is it something that can be taught?

Is it a blessing from the heavens above?

In my search for Courage,

I met Fear by the wayside of my mind's alley.

It became a constant companion,

As I took a new step, to learn, to dance, to sing, to be just me.

Every time I dared to act,

In spite of my companion whispering in my ears,

I saw that as I rejoiced in my victories,

Courage was walking with me, hand-in-hand.

As my companion continues to travel with me,

I realize that Courage is a Choice,

It is as much a part of me as Fear is,

waiting to be called upon, with every step I take.
