She had come to the clinic for one chipped tooth.
“Doctor, can you just fix this one? I have a wedding coming up, and I don’t want it to show in photographs.”
As we spoke, she mentioned something else. Her front teeth had gradually become shorter, an old filling had started looking different, and she had begun avoiding certain angles in photographs. None of these changes had happened overnight. She had simply got used to them.
Now, with an important occasion approaching, she wanted to know if one small repair could fix everything.
This is where cosmetic dentistry becomes more than a question of appearance.
Is One Treatment Enough, or Is There a Bigger Problem?
A chipped tooth may need a simple filling or bonding. Stains might respond to professional whitening, while certain shape or alignment concerns may need other conservative treatments.
However, when several teeth are worn, repeatedly breaking or affected by old restorations, the dentist needs to look beyond the visible damage.
Is the patient grinding their teeth? Is the bite placing excess pressure on certain teeth? Is there enough healthy tooth structure to restore them safely?
These questions matter because treating only what is visible may not address the underlying cause.
Depending on the findings, treatment could range from a single repair to veneers, crowns or, in more complex cases, full-mouth rehabilitation.
When Should You Consider a Smile Makeover?
Consider an assessment if you notice:
Teeth that keep chipping or breaking.
Teeth becoming shorter or more worn over time.
Multiple damaged, discoloured or heavily restored teeth.
Difficulty chewing comfortably or changes in how your teeth meet.
A smile makeover doesn’t automatically mean extensive treatment. Sometimes, the best plan is surprisingly simple.
The goal isn’t to change every tooth. It’s to understand what your teeth actually need.
At KShine Dental Studio, Powai, Dr. Kritika Agrawal can assess your teeth, explain suitable options and help you decide whether a small correction or a more comprehensive treatment plan makes sense for you.
