I had a chest ct scan done recently and what the conclusions said was patchy air trapping bilaterally which may be related to the patients extensive smoking history. What does patchy air trapping bilaterally mean? Im a 30 year old male with a 21 year smoking history of up to 3 packs per day.

Hi. I understand your concern s. You will need to undergo a detailed examination and investigation like pulmonary function test which is needed for the diagnosis as well as to assess severity of bronchitis based on which treatment can be started. Consult a pulmonologist for the same at the earliest

It means that you have developed obstructive airway disease. Most likely COPD beacuse of heavy smoking.Please stop smoking and consult a pulmonologist.
