Ultrasound scan and fine needle aspiration cytology cannot differentiate between follicular adenoma and carcinoma (cancer) of the thyroid gland. Only report they can give is 'follicular neoplasm'. In this situation either you can repeat fine needle aspiration cytology or undergo surgery to rule out malignancy
