What causes cough and cold allergy

I am a female of 19 years of age. Every year during the rainy season I get this allergic cold and cough. What should I do to prevent every year? Does yoga and exercise prevent allergic cough and cold? Sneezing and running nose is irritating. Will steam help me to cure this problem?
