Varicose Veins
My father has to stand for a long time due to his work. His legs pain a lot and there is swelling in this legs. And there is regular itching on the legs. Some purple coloured veins are visible near the ankle area. I am doubtful that is it the starting of varicose veins

Ask him to wear stockings and regularly keep marching while standing . Get his diabetes profile done. When he sits down he should sit with legs up on a stool
