Vaginal infection with high HLAR levels
Hi, I'm 20 weeks pregnant and have been detected with vaginal infection, upon getting tested it exhibited 'high level amino glycoside resistance' and the doctor has prescribed me linezolid 600mg once a day for 10 days. Is it safe during pregnancy? Note: I'm allergic to norfloxacin Thanks

Hello ma'am. 1. If you are allergic to norfloxacin, you might be allergic to other Floroquinolones. 2. Aminoglycosides are a class of antibiotics and if you are resistant to them, there is a chance that you might be resistant to its other congeners. 3. Hence your doctor has prescribed you Linezolid. 4. Linezolid falls into category C. In animal studies, pregnant animals were given this medication and had some babies born with problems. No well-controlled studies have been done in humans. Therefore, this medication may be used if the potential benefits to the mother outweigh the potential risks to the unborn child. 5. As vaginal infection during pregnancy can lead to chorioamnionitis and preterm labor , hence the potential benefits of the drug might outweigh the potential risk to your baby. Hope this helps.
